When your arms surround me
and we synchronize our breathing, there’s that moment --
when there’s no where else that I’d rather be.
I close my eyes and imagine
I can dissolve, crawl inside your skin, slip into your bloodstream
see all the places that you’ve been.
I make a hammock of your veins, cradled under the valves of your heart
and as I lie here rocking
I realize--I know you could tear me apart
There’s the steady drum beat inside of your chest
the one that centers my soul; pulls it in time with your own.
It causes euphoric waves, and I float upon their crest
I’m not afraid to duck beneath the surface, because I know
That the moons of your eyes will cause the waning of the tides
And with a breath, under I go.
It’s like floating in tranquility
the only silence where I can think, find peace
rediscover serenity.
The aura around you, it’s bright and it’s clear
and as I gently sway with the breeze from your lungs
I discover that I can finally breathe here.

It’s when I start to doubt the sacredness of it all
That the toxicity steeps through
and everything around us begins to fall.
I struggle with the current when the walls are closing in
I fight against the strength that holds me together
I should know that I cannot win.
It’s a matter of faith, of letting go and forgetting the past.
of believing in you. in us
It’s knowing that if this is meant to be, it will last.
It’s not easy, expressing the depths of this hidden heart
but when we lie entwined
Even the smallest of words feels like a start.
it feels like the world is crashing down around us
and it seems like the only thing that I can do
is cling to you—and trust
We are both warriors, our souls are carved with scars
But it’s our battle worn imperfections
That draw you and I together and push us towards the stars.
