Picking up a piece of us
I almost swept away
It looked so dull upon the floor
But something caught my eye.

As I lifted it to my face
It sparkled and shined so bright
Bringing back memories and wonder
Of how I let it go to dust.

Not just dust,
Bits.
Shattered
Smashed and kicked
In a sudden fit.

Lifted up over my head
Held there as if seen on stage
My stage
The one in my head.
I tossed us down
Shattered
Thousand fading diamonds.

Oh exhilaration!
Passion's release.
So fleeting...so fleeting
But damn it felt so good.

Later ignored as I stepped on them
The crunch diminution reminders
Walked into silence
Turned into dust.

Waking now to reality's dream
A dream of darkness, hollow halls.
Head leaden, too empty to lift
A heart weighing cold and bitter and small.

But this one missed
And now its mine
Hidden in my hand
Letting it glow
Lighting up the dust
The dust inhaled
Always a part of me
Always us.
