Disco lights fall on sweaty exposed flesh
Pressed together as hands in prayer
Music thunders on deaf ears as they dance
Hearing nothing but hearts beating in harmony
People surround them looking on with empty eyes
Everyone together, and they’re so alone
Where do I go from here?

Daytime bright lights flash through the smoky darkness
A loud intrusion on heavy lidded eyes
The disco ball slows, spinning to a stop
A velvety microphone voice sends them away
“you don’t have to go home, but you can’t stay here”
desperate faces search out each other
Where do I go from here?

Smothering silence surrounds them
The cabby’s classical station tinkles in the air
Reminding them of who they are not
The driver sighs and takes them into the night
Hurried gropes, tongues collide
Searching empty caverns of warmth offered
Where do I go from here?

Tangled limbs swell on starchy white sheets
Gasping breaths catch in raspy throats
Music still rings in their mind the tempo forcing
Driving them higher, passion consumes
Hard male flesh impales soft ripened fruit
Sweet dripping release as they drift into sleep
Where do I go from here?

Sunlight streams obscenely through opened curtains
She awakes in a unfamiliar room her breath echoes in her mind
A scrawled note bears his words with no name
“you don’t have to go home, but you can’t stay here.”
She dresses, the sun touching her skin so briefly
The door closes behind her, bus fare jingles in her pocket
Where do I go from here?
