open like a blacksmith's bellows,
zebra shadows rise and fall,
cast by her
emaciated ribs,
flavored by barbeque sauce blood,
driven by a slowing heart,
the microbes' last feast,
those bones
soon to lie empty
like the rotting staves
of the Ark,
her precious cargo
long ago delivered.
