Where are you? Cries a woman through the night
Where is the sun? Why won't the day just break?
I cannot lie here sleepless - it's not right
I wish the dawn would come. Let me forsake
This dormant lover who has had his fill:
He's left me to his dreams with no caress;
And just a sodden feeling; I could kill
Him for his selfish attitude. The mess
He left when he slid out and, torpid, slumped
Against my side, then drifted off to sleep;
It's just as if the wretched man has dumped
Me for a love: my nightmare is he'll keep
Her and forget the waking hours. I'm through
With this so lonely vigil: where are you?
