Consciousness creeps up like a reluctant puppy
The room still cocooned in darkness
Time is waiting
perched on the alarm clock
ready to pounce

A dream blows away like cottonwood seeds on a hot summer day
Stirring in the warmth of down bedding
Sleep's pale fingers tickle the mind
While the physical body becomes aware
Aware of its excitement

Proudly it throbs demanding the attention of an Adonis
Asking for a private audience
It is not the hard iron shaft to skewer prey
It is the plump Christmas goose
Slowly savored

The darkness hides the need like the mind shrouds thought
This arousal is not seeking romance
amour or quick release
Pure self-satisfaction in the knowledge of being alive
Full, thick, content
Virile
