Chocolade
Marmelade
And other junk
From those bit by bit I build my wall
Under this layer
No one sees me

Smiles
Giggles
And jokes
From those I create a mask for my face
In here nothing will hurt me
I am hidden

You continue to delight

In a few deft strokes (sorry but the cliché is most appropriate here) you paint a clear picture of the compensatory behaviour of the insecure that is so familiar in our world. For some reason the poem elicits compassion for the person behind the voice of the poem.
