War Diaries
Day Eighteen

So this is it then
My life torn away from me
When I close my eye’s the war is vivid
Every thought I have is a nightmare
They tell me I’m going home
I should be happy right?
They load me into the ambulance
I look at everyone’s faces
I see the torment of war
I wonder how they survive
How they can go to sleep at night and forget.

They don't forget

These poems have shifted from the mundane carelessness depicted at the outset to the growing concreteness of the horror that infests society long after the war has past. All these poems have had an unassuming air so that nothing interferes with the serious message that is slowly being revealed. I am grateful that you are writing this.
