War Diaries
Day Fourteen

Well this is it
One man with a handgun to my head
its so close to me I can feel its heart beating
One last thought
Then nothing
I tense up, but nothing comes
The night sky suddenly lights up
They are coming, they are coming
Red tracers fly past the window
Get the men to the roof
We will crush them
Gunshots and fire fill the air like thunder
The man at the window falls backward
Two holes in his head, eye’s wide open
Another falls from the roof
I can see movement all around me
More and more of them friendly faces
For the first time in days I smile
Knowing this nightmare is over.
