The war to end all wars
only a fool could believe that
men younger than twenty
forced on the front line
facing certain death
trenches of mud
driving them insane
smell of blood
churning their stomachs
choking from gas
no future in sight
over the top they go
goodbye cruel world
those who survive
the horror will live on
for the rest of their lives

Back to the present day
sitting in wheelchairs
limbs missing, broken men
looking at society of today
the scum on the streets
with no respect for anyone
not caring why these men
sacrificed their lives
for a free society
these old heroes reflect
why did we bother
nobody cares anymore

A photograph

You have captured a slice of life and expressed it wonderfully.

Thank you!
