eyes, black as pitch
glowing in the moonlight
staring out between the branches
watching - always watching

a nose, pale and petite
pointing gracefully to the stars
catches a scent and follows
ever attentive and perceptive

ears, keen and sloped
slanting artfully to a point
hears the crunch of a footstep
listening - always listening

a mouth, small and red
pursed in thought
tastes the coming snow
ever expressive

a complete entity
shimmering in starlight
drifting along the riverbank
watchguard of the winter
