Watching out the door

bysheawaitstruelove©

She stands at the door
Watching the night
Hoping to see
A pair of headlights

She's got some champagne
and her best dress ready
She's even packed a bowl
of the very best headies

Will it be this time?
Will he truly come here?
or is it just another fantasy
her brain engineered?

Only he knows for sure
and maybe the time is not right
but, oh, how she wishes
On this cold, March night

Her breath fogs the glass
it's harder to see
and maybe after all this
he's just imaginary

It doesn't really matter
she thinks to herself
if it's not this time
the future holds a wealth

of chances, of time
of hope and of love
of kisses and sweet dreams
hand in hand, glove in glove

tonight she gives up
turns back into the room
but her heart is filled
with love and not gloom

she knows he's the one
and sooner or later
he'll come a-knocking
her true love, her dream creator

until then she'll dream
of the whole grocery store
because once she has him
she'll only want more
