Side by side in front they stood
Each to their place, protocol understood
The organ played a familiar song
The gown bright, her tresses long

In her eyes of blue, he saw the look
And in that moment his reaction took
Evil, infidelity, dishonor, and greed
He saw her soul, he saw her need

With a cry he screamed "No more"
"I will not be bound to this whore"
A gasp went up from the gathered throng
Half thought him right, half thought him wrong.

For in his pocket in a painful hand
Was writ a confession from his best man
Telling of their lustful nights
And how he had feasted on her delights

In mournful silence the crowd dispersed
They had seen the absolute worst
Of loving gone awry
And also seen a friendship die
