Promises made never meant to keep
Words said that make the hurt run deep
The ache in the hole where my heart should be
Please release my soul back to me

I want to move on, leave the pain behind
But I see your face when I close my eyes
The tears leave a trail as they move down my face
Oh the visions of that future I can't erase

My love wasn't fantasy, my love was very real
I thought you meant the words of a future you shared
I gave you my all; my heart, soul, and mind
You said that you loved me then left me behind

Lies told that seemed like the truth
Drawing me in to that safe cocoon
Only to find the words meant nothing at all
And I am left here feeling like a complete fool

But I won't let you break me, I am much too strong
I will clear out my mind of the visions and songs
My heart will mend, and my soul just might heal
But you'll never know what could have been real

Not for artistic merit...

But for the heartfelt emotion it engenders. I'm there with you.
