To MH from His sg

Let me not be the precious jewel that might adorn Your finger,
         nor the crown of gold that rests upon Your head,
But she who labors for the jewels for Your pleasure,
and whose fingers upon that brow might bring you ease.

Let me not be one who stands proud and sure before You,
nor come to teach, too wise in my own heart,
but she who kneels in humble adoration
and she who comes a student quick to learn.

The honor of men, and pride, and satisfaction
not mine to seek, I want more precious things.
Your smile my only laurels, my only honor;
Your approval all the pride I seek to find.
Your words of honest praise my satisfaction,
Your love, in tiny measure, the sweetest dream.

Let me be all and nothing, as Your gracious will demands
the path You choose be mine to walk as well.
For I shall follow You, as You in time should want me
Into all that I am, now you have shown the way.
