What She Left Behind

He kneels in the closet,
clutching her clothes.
Her sent is still strong,
wafting up, to his nose.

Her flats and heels
aligned in a neat row.
The worn creases and scuffs,
polished to a new glow.

Her favorite book,
lies askew on a chair.
The Little Prince waits,
but noone is there.

In her photograph album,
she smiles up at him.
But the unfading truth,
is now setting in.

A place for everything in
This sad, grave state.
The vision of lost futures
will age his young face.

Sobs echo, in silence,
resonating through the house.
No longer a home,
with the death of his spouse.
