It really doesn't matter,
but since you asked.
My childhood, tattooed by
memories of you and I,
intertwined.

You know my soul,
but I know your name,
what a bargain.

Life seems easier when
you leave, unplanned.
Trips for some tropical
paradise with only your
suitcase and a deck of cards
with the jokers missing.

Joker's wild, you'd always say,
grinning at me in victory,
screw the poker face.

I often do not like poems of this subject because they come across as irrational or sappy-sentimental. This is a great example of a specific piece, two specific pieces, of hurt turned back around on the sender. Nice, powerful.
