This poem along with several others, were written for a very dear friend who was in a long term
abusive relationship. It was my way of trying to help her see the truth of the relationship and
give her the courage to leave.
One last look for specks of dust,
Or anything out of place,
She combs her hair and checks again,
The expression on her face.
Things must be perfect as can be,
When finally he comes in,
If they are not he'll see them as,
An unforgivable sin.
No matter what she's done,
He'll think she should've done more,
She holds her breath, her heart won't beat,
When he comes in the door.
