it was like a photograph—a Polaroid
of everything I wanted as a senior,
right down to the haircut and the jeans,
but slightly out of focus, as if
the colors had bleached with time
and sunlight and children and
how I finally fit well with another guy.
His wife was cute, but dim, but then

enough to base a life on, and I'm
well past that crotch afire thing
that pulls you together like gravity
to collide with someone who's just
plain wrong, thank god. That's over.
