When lovers become just friends,
There is one who really means it,
And one with a broken heart.
When lovers become just friends,
One is trying to hold on,
As the other is trying to move on.
When lovers become just friends,
Friendship becomes a sad substitute
For feelings of passion and fire.
When lovers become just friends,
A peck on the cheek replaces
Kisses . . . long, lingering, deep.
When lovers become just friends,
A hug becomes an excruciating dance
To avoid touching familiar curves.
When lovers become just friends,
One dreams about tomorrow.
The other dreams of yesterday.
