blackness clouding the eyes
the window to his soul
confusion strikes harshly
where glowing hope stood
yet peace washes the flesh
when we touch
Where did my love go?
the One who knew my thoughts
my fears, my desires and me
who held the owner's manual
knowing the buttons to push
the simplest of touches
the balance i craved

asleep in the desert
waiting for the war to be over
hiding in the shadows
hoping i'll return again
still in battle
carrying the weight of the world

beneath this pale tender flesh
deep behind the veins
armored by bone
as long as i fill these lungs with air
