WHORE! WHORE! WHORE!
Em Keli 2003

They were
Mestopholes’s
cur bitches
biting at her heels
ripping wounds in her side,
as they spit out around her, fresh from the gates of Hell,
crying out at her, barking savagely
Whore! Whore! Whore!

I knew the loneliness of a whore.

I was one.

Born a bastard instead, but a whore
just the same.

She had been misjudged
Pronounced guilty without a trial.
No rebuttal argument allowed or entertained.
No pause for understanding.
The self righteous were on the march.
With their sticks and stones and clubs.
Flailing mercilessly.
Whore! Whore! Whore!

And she was no whore.
She had always been a lady with me.

She had fallen head over heels in love with her
man.
Married
Bore a child.

And even on her wedding night.
He ignored her.
Turned his back on her needs and
went to
sleep.
And a week later
took her without abandon
or caress
or hug
or heart.

Yet she remained
faithful
empty but faithful
with a renewed determination to show her
love.
Blind with unbridled love.
Left abandoned and in need in a cage.

She focused on the child
gave her love and tenderness
and ached for her
man
who was still
never
there for her.
Her man who pushed her back
and left her
empty and
aching.

So when some touch of sincerity
presented itself to her
starving soul
she
could not help but hold on to the
fleeting moment.

So Hells hounds barked and nipped
Whore! Whore! Whore!

But her husband was the whore of all whores.

I parried the path of their
stones
deflecting them from their
target
beat the beasts with staff until they
retreated
reluctant
still yipping
and snarling
with their ugly teeth bared.
Whore! Whore! Whore!

She was no whore.

She had always been an angel with me.
I held her tight until the sobbing subsided.
Kissed away her tears.
Caressed her aches and
tended to her wounds.
Renewed her hopes.
Returned her home.
Kissed her forehead and held her tight one last
embrace.
Watched her smile glow as we parted.

Then found a bigger
stick
and went back into the night
looking for those
vicous
foaming at the mouth,
mad dogs
from hell.

I knew whores.
I was a whore.

An endless aching unsated heart made me a whore.

And I was going to exact some revenge.
Make the heartless pay a price for their callous
whip lashes.

Mestopholes saw me coming
and turned
running,
his bitch curs on his
heels
back through the gates of Hell.

And I knew that was not the last
I would see of them.

Someday
they would come

for me.
