Why do I value
The opinions of others?
Why should it matter
If someone misunderstands
Who I am
What I'm about.
Why does it hurt
When I don't measure up
Don't meet the expectations
Of other people.
Why can't I
Just let the words slide off
Just fall off me
Like rain falling down.
