Why should I believe in Christmas?
When in all my 30 years upon this God forsaken earth
I've never had even one
One present
One brightly shining tree
Nothing
Nothing at all
Why should I believe in Christmas?
When I'm not even sure there's a God
Much less a Santa Claus
Maybe that story of a baby's virgin birth was just fiction
Plain and simple
Nothing more then an old wive's tale
Spun to keep us all happy and in place
For at least one day out of the year otherwise so very depressing
Why should I believe in Christmas?
When this bottle is my only friend
This needle my only high
I have no lover
No child to hold in my aching empty arms
No reason to feel any kind of joy at all
I'm just dead and cold inside 24/7
Why should I believe in Christmas?
When no one seems to believe in me
When the gleeful, jolly faces we all wear
Are really more then mere masks
Masks made to hide our true evil demons and cruel holiday wishes
Merry Christmas and happy holidays, yeah sure
There's no such thing
Never has been
Never will be
At least as far as this poet is concerned
