It was their faces that turned me away
twisted lips curled into smiles
spilling friendly talk of welcome
how do you do
as if they cared
just putting on the act
He’s watching you know
and they are all good
in the lobby’s freak show
of pretty dresses
belts and ties
you can join the smile
in the know
they hold back
but wink to whisper
righteously wrong
