Winter Morning

The day fell open, like a flower
suddenly out on this cold morning,
its reddish petals unveiling

a pale yellow centre. High
above, the clear, cold blue, old
and matchless over this wide

winter, the slow fields lying dazed
below. Still, there's no chance
of my entering this silence,

locked up in warm walls
and a green pullover, wrapped
in the day's obligations & all.
