It's wonderful here
In the middle of the park;
When I was your age
I'd stay until dark.

The birds would sing
And the squirrels would play;
I'd just sit and listen
To pass the day.

But now you say
That you don't care
About the birds or the trees
Or the sweet spring air?

Just tell me, son,
What is wrong with you?
I'm beginning to think
You haven't a clue.

Does your teenage mind
Fix on sports alone?
Do you yearn for more -
Perhaps the latest phone?

Or is it the cars
And the girls and booze?
Or maybe you'd rather
Be taking a snooze?

I've a child to train
In the way he should go,
So that when he's old
He'll have something to know.

The good things in life
Are the stars and sea;
The best things in life
Are those that are free.
