We'll kiss beneath the stars: their permanence,
Despite their flaring up and caving in,
Bears witness to the fact lives last moments,
Compared to stars; but let us both begin
To celebrate illusion. We're fireflies:
Just fleeting things that flicker, flash and fade;
And, yet, our transience will not disguise
The fact that we can stand here quite amazed
By galaxies, which twinkle for an age,
Then vanish into darkness. While their dust
Spreads out across the night skies, let us stage
A brilliant entertainment: pretence must
Ensure the shining firmament will bless
A loving kiss; so, let stars bear witness.
