You come at a word with preconceived notions
It’s sort of like looking at the ocean
You expect to see water
Do you see the gulls?
The saltspray?
Do you notice the undulation?
Do you spy the ebb and flow?
Can you see deeper meaning
Below the surface
There is a world of constant alteration
Like a dress hemmed for five generations
Of brides
You expect it to change
For each personality
For each fashion
But
You come at a word with preconceived notions
It’s sort of like looking at the ocean
You expect to see water
Look deeper
Hear something else
Understand more than just the word
Understand the puzzle
Understand the ocean
Hear the voice
