He thought about words, what else?
What else would a scrubby wordsmith do
while cleaning toilets to pay for food?
And syntax, well, he pondered that too,
how absent it was when he was young,
which is why the poet said
as close to the Word the soul once was
a child is father to man.
Nevertheless, if there is no Word
in the past, present, or future tense....
"Ah, what a pisser," he said,
coming upon an unsightly mess
and flushing stench from the head.
