You Are There
When I cry in desperation
You are there to feel my tears
When I’m overcome with panic
You are there to calm my fears
When I struggle just to focus
You are there to clear my mind
When I teeter near the edge
You draw me back to humankind
When jealousy does overwhelm me
Your rebuke is patient, caring
When I lash you with my anger
You act as though my love’s not wearing
When I hear the darkness call me
You distract me with your writing
When the walls close in around me
You ask my help, always inviting
Though the distance separates us
I feel your presence strong, enduring
Etched on my heart the words you write me
Give me peace, are reassuring
Thank you friend for just existing
Reaching out, always persisting
Making life worth living most days
Thank you friend for being always
