You said you were impressed
that I didn’t try to grope you
the first day we kissed
or the second,
And that I asked your permission
before I touched you
on the third
We spent long nights together
and held each other close
as we finally fell asleep
When you fell on hard months,
you said you felt bad
for not fulfilling my “needs.”
I said not to worry—
and I was there for you anyway
When things fell apart
between us
and we tried to remain friends,
It was your idea that we sleep together
as friends
And you later admitted
you did it because
you thought it would return things
to how they were
And when you found new people
you flaunted it
threw it in my face
would talk about nothing else.
You tried to make me jealous:
they had
what I no longer did.
I’d always told you
I made love to you
because I cared for you—
and I meant it.
I never told you
that you happened to be
the worst I’ve ever had.
