do you know what the zone is?
have you ever been there, felt it?
It's a place in your head
where all of life's stimulation leave
all that's left is the sound
of your voice, in your mind...
a place where no one
or nothing can reach you
what your doing at that moment
thoughts your thinking
sensations your feeling
beat of a heart in your chest
heat of the body you wear
they're all that exists.
the zone...
it's a place few can reach
profoundly changing all about you
an edifice of stone you can tie to
some would call it meditation
others call it prayer
a few call it concentration
but none of these will bring you there
Zone lies inside you yet outside too
you can never be sure just where it is
the zone...
it's a thing, a plane of existence
a place your all alone with yourself
far from utopia or despair
inside you, inside your head,
like a sharp blade piercing mortality
waiting for just one moment to show head
always with you always in you
the zone waits for you to enter
to me...the zone
happens often, almost swallowing days
ingress at times with beatings of my heart
at work, zone catches me, my breathing deep
my muscles pumped, my movements precise,
eyes sharp, every movement definite...no waste. during writing, words flow from ten fingers
onto a keyboard...as only thoughts can flow. reading, voices in my head
characters alive with all foibles...so human.
making love, two bodies united, limbs entwined, pushing pulling licking sucking gnashing caressing touching smelling tasting...the zone.
ahh....the zone....
all of these and so much more
with the last beat of my heart
I'll die in thought, caught in the zone
this I know. Death itself will become
the zone.
Yep, been there on many levels, including death. Great perspective and nicely poetic.
