"I love you too," I said.
We lay there, contented, for a few more minutes. Then Sophia asked, "Are we still friends?"
"Of course we're still friends. We'll always be friends," I said with absolute certainty.
"That's not what I meant," she said. "I mean... will we start... will we keep on... Are we now..."
I thought for a moment. "I don't know. The only thing I know right now is there's no place I'd rather be than in your bed, bare-ass fucking naked, with you curled up in my arms."
"That's good enough for me," she said.
Sophia rested an arm across my chest. I turned out the light next to the bed.
"Happy Valentine's Day," I whispered to her.
"Happy Valentine's Day," she responded, then turned her head and kissed me lightly on the lips.
We both fell fast asleep to the sound of the frozen rain.
