A New Beginning Ch. 11

That evening at supper they told us of their adventure.

The three of them were stalking a small herd of hadrosaurs along with an accompaniment of Antoinetteosaurus. They were debating among themselves whether to kill a juvenile hadrosaur or an Antoinetteosaurus when suddenly a Marineosaurus came on the scene. The monster was also stalking the hadrosaurs.

They immediately decided to kill the Marineosaurus instead. I'm sure Joshua was thinking of the time we saw our first Marineosaurus; when we were attacked by the Hawkosaurs. I'm also sure he talked Thomas and Anthony into going after the beast. But then knowing them like I do, I don't believe Joshua had to do very much arm twisting.

Anyway according to them, the Marineosaurus singled out an adult female that seemed to walk with a slight limp. It bit the helpless creature on its neck, killing it. Then while it was feasting on its prey, the three of them maneuvered into position. Joshua, with the .45 ready just in case they needed it, was to the carnivore's left; Anthony and Thomas were to its right.

On cue from Joshua they all shot at the same time. Anthony hit the animal right behind its jaw, in its neck and Thomas in its snout, right in front of its eye. But Joshua shot his bolt right into the beast's eye. It fell over with a loud thud. They skinned it, cut out some steaks and chopped out its teeth. Then they left the rest for the scavengers.

We all congratulated Joshua on his kill. He just characteristically shrugged his shoulders as though it was all in a day's work. I'm very proud of him.
