A New Life for Dr. Mitchel Ch. 07

byFat_Dad©

Marsh continued the conversation with Juan Javier in Spanish, while Becca helped Jimmy translate what the other two were saying. Jimmy knew a little bit of Spanish, but Marsh and Becca were fluent in it, so he was a little slow in keeping up.

When the whole story came out, it seems an employee had brought his twelve year old daughter to work with him. The twelve year old had been playing games on the office computer and had somehow gotten into the security system. In her travels online she downloaded a game that got mixed up in the security system files, and the system had gone into a safety mode to keep it safe.

While Marsh and Juan were talking, Jimmy picked up his cell phone and called one of the programmers in the Miami office, and she went right about logging into the half-billion dollar satellite computer system, and cleaned out the offending files, and restored the system.

The programmer called Jimmy back in about ten minutes, and told him the problem was fixed. Marsh heard the conversation and asked Juan; "Se puede controlar con su división de seguridad, Juan? El sistema debe realizar copias de seguridad y funcionamiento como nueva." (Can you check with your security division, Juan? Your system should be back up and running as good as new.)

"A sólo un minuto, por favor. LO miraré." (Just a minute, please. I'll check.) Juan replied. There were a couple of minutes of silence, and then Mr. Javier came back on the line. "¡Oh, Dios mío. Se han fijado ya la tiene. Muchas gracias, tanto! Este es un muy buen servicio." (Oh my God. You have fixed it already. Thank You, so much! This is very good service.)

"Estoy muy contento de lo que podría ayudar a que el Sr. Javier. Nuestros clientes son muy importantes para nosotros. Os voy a dar mi número de teléfono móvil personal. Si usted tiene más problemas, me puede llamar directamente. Os aconsejo que si, que me estoy tomando mi familia a Hawai para este fin de semana, así que puede que no sea tan rápido. También le daré el número para el programador. Usted puede llamar a su si necesita ayuda inmediata." Marsh told him. (I'm really glad we could help you Mr. Javier. Our clients are very important to us. I'm going to give you my personal cell phone number. If you have any more problems, you can call me directly. I'll warn you though; I'm taking my family to Hawaii for this weekend, so I might not be quite as quick. I'll also give you the number for the programmer. You can call her if you need immediate help.)

Marsh passed on the phone numbers and ended the call with a very happy client.

Jimmy beamed at Marsh and Becca. "Damn we do nice work!" He bragged. "Marsh, I would never have thought to speak to him in his primary language. I'm so slow it would never have worked. I think that was a great tactic. You made him feel very comfortable. He's gonna be a repeat customer and a great referral."

"I hope they're all this easy." Marsh remarked. "All I did was talk to the customer for a few minutes. You called the tech. and she did all the work. I like it when we all work together as a team."

"Don't downplay your roll in this." Jimmy replied. "Your language skills and your calm reasonable manner put the client at ease. You're absolutely right though. It was a well-oiled team effort. I'm still really glad you're here, Marsh. I did the right thing, bringing you here, and giving you the authority to take charge. You do that well. Thank you, Marsh!"

"OK, here's my plan," Marsh said. "I think you and Becca and I should leave for the base in a couple of hours. I want to make a tour of the building between now and then to check in on all the departments. People need to get used to seeing my face, and they need to know I care about what is going on. Each employee is important to this organization. I'd like everyone to know that."

"If either you or Becca wants to come along, Wolf and I would welcome you. If either or both of you have other things to do, that's OK too. While Wolf and I make our rounds, I'll check with the ones who are going with us this weekend to see if they can leave in about two hours."

Becca smiled at Marsh. "Can you give me about ten minutes to make one phone call? I just have the one thing to handle, and then I'll be ready to go with you. Grandpa, are you gonna come with us. I think it would be fun. Marsh, why don't you invite mom, too?"

Jimmy cocked his head and thought for just a minute. "I'll come with you as well. Marsh, go talk to Trish and talk her into coming. I wonder if this would be a good weekly practice. It could certainly be a team builder. Come get me when you're ready to leave."

Becca went into her office and Marsh got up and went to talk to Trish. As he walked into her office, Trish stood up and came out from behind her desk. "Hi there Marsh I'm happy to see you again so soon. To what do I owe this pleasure?"

Marsh met Trish and wrapped her in a big bear hug. "Hi beautiful! I like the greetings I get when I come in here. You always make me feel wanted, even if I know you don't need my help."

"I'm getting ready to do a building tour. I think I'm going to make it a regular weekly routine, going through the building and visiting every department. Would you like to and have time to go with me? Becca and your father are going and I'd really like to have you come along as well."

Trish's face lit up again. "That sounds like a good idea and a fun thing to do. I can hear from everyone how they like what we're doing, and get more suggestions about what people want to eat."

"Excellent!" Marsh responded. Finish up whatever you were doing and come into Jimmy's office. Marsh warmly kissed Trish on the lips and let her go back to her desk, as he took a quick trip into his own office to check his messages.

"Nothing pressing here." He said to himself. "I'm all caught up with myself. I think I'll give myself the weekend off, and send me to Hawaii."

Becca walked through the door that joined her office and Marsh's office. "Do I hear somebody talking to himself already this morning? Seems a little early for that isn't it?"

"Oh sweetheart!" Marsh replied. "You'll hear this guy doing that a lot. Somebody has to tell me what's going on, or I'll get all mixed up. Besides, where could I get better advice?"

Marsh pulled Becca close and they shared a warm hug and kiss before Marsh took Becca's hand and they headed into Jimmy's office where Jimmy and Trish were waiting for them. Jimmy and Trish stood up and walked toward the two newcomers and Marsh turned and led the little group out toward the main elevators.

"I'd like to start our tour up here on the sixth floor, and go down the stairways to each floor, Marsh explained as he walked. He continued to the locked double doors that opened into the unused portion of the top floor of the building. He punched his code into the keypad, and then opened the door for the rest of the group.

Marsh led the way to about the center of the wide open, unused portion of the space. Turning around in a circle Marsh swept his hand around and said; "I think this would be a great place to put a restaurant and cafeteria. If Trish can get someone to put one in here, we could have the architect design an outdoor deck/patio, and employees could eat inside or out, and have a fantastic view."

"Depending on who moves in, we could make arrangements for them to have longer hours, and stay open as late as they wanted to, with our people providing security, for them and us."

"With the 24 hour urgent care down on the first floor, we are going to need to have a beefed up security crew here anyway, so a couple more to insure no one tries to get into places they shouldn't be would not be a big stretch."

Marsh was suddenly quiet. He turned and faced the door they had come through just minutes before. Marsh rubbed his chin and the other three Turner execs could tell he was pondering something new and different.

Finally Marsh spoke. "Jimmy, do you think Ginny and Jack would be interested in expanding The Hole? What if we open our own restaurant, here on the sixth floor? We put a glass elevator up to the roof, where we add a deck with an open section and a covered section, where people can choose where they want to dine. We call it The Hole in the Sky, and we advertise it as a destination restaurant where we serve exquisite foods from around the world. We make it a simple fare for employees during the day and it becomes a fine dining restaurant at night."

"We offer free airplane parking at our airport and a shuttle helicopter from there to the restaurant. We only let our own pilots and helicopters land on the roof, but we allow private helos to park on a pad we build behind the building on the ground level."

"Trish can get the architects busy and design another 5 star hotel back in the woods and it can house our clients and guests from all over the world. We can accommodate high priced executives from China, Blue Blood Royalty from Europe, and Middle Eastern Sheiks with their families. And for all of them we can offer their own cuisine, or any other type of food they would like."

Jimmy, Trish, and Becca were staring at Marsh with their mouths hanging open. All three of them looked around the open space they were standing in, and wondered what Marsh had seen, that sent him off in this fantasy.

Jimmy finally pulled himself out of the shocked state Marsh had induced. "Marsh, you really do think grandiose, don't you? Not just big, but grandiose. The trouble of it is I like it. It could work. We can't just pull it off over-night, but it could work,"

"I've flown to Chicago with a few clients. Becca can tell you about that. I've had her fly us to New York, and once to San Francisco, just for dinner, to impress a high rolling client and it worked. Why not build a place that people will fly into. The new hotel could have a big enough conference center to attract fairly large groups with high end budgets."

Jimmy turned and looked at his daughter. "What do you think Trish? Would you like to take this kind of project on?"

"Wow daddy," Trish replied. "I have never even considered something so big. I guess we could do it. We have the land, and if you guys say we have the resources. I'm sure we could generate some interest right away out of the novelty factor, but would it carry on? We'd have to be sure we maintained a superior quality, both in our food and our service. People with that kind of money aren't going to settle for just the novelty of the situation. Those kinds of people will want to be pampered."

Before anyone could respond, Marsh's phone rang. Marsh looked at the screen and saw that the call was from Leyanni, at the resort in Hawaii. "I better take this," he said. "It's Leyanni from Hawaii, and I hope there's nothing wrong."

Marsh pushed the talk button on his phone. "Hi Leyanni! I hope you're not calling with an emergency. I just sent some new friends over for you to take care of them. This better be some more good news."

Marsh listened to Leyanni say, "Hello boss, I think I need your help in solving a small problem."

"I hope it's not a big problem. Did the Morrisons arrive OK? Are they satisfied with the arrangements?

Trish, Becca, and Jimmy could only hear Marsh's end of the conversation, so they had to guess what Leyanni was telling him from the other end of the conversation.

"Uh-huh" Marsh responded while nodding his head. "So since you know I'm on my way over there in a couple of hours, what's with the curiosity about my airplane?"

"OK, is this somebody that I know? What do I have that you need?" Marsh asked.

"Ahhh, I'm starting to get it, now. You need me to bring a bunch more people. Were these people in the loop prior to this, or are they yet to find out they're needed in Hawaii?"

Oooo Kaaaaayyyy! I see. So I need to know where they are, and they need to be ready to go in about two hours. Can you put Beth on the phone so I can get that information?"

After talking to Beth for a few minutes Marsh asked, "Is that going to be able to happen? OK Beth. I'll get in touch with my crew. I hope you're having fun."

"Oh Leyanni! What are you getting me mixed up in? I'll have to fire up the Gulfstream after all. I'm not going to ask the crew to put the 747 down on some small town crop duster strip. We'll just bring two birds."

"You bet sweetheart! See ya soon."

Marsh pushed the end call button and looked at his family, who stood looking expectantly at him.

"So! It seems that Dan and Beth are going to get hitched tomorrow in the garden over there. They want us to have a plane stop at some small farm country air-strip and pick up Beth's parents and siblings so they can be there."

Marsh paused as the wheels turned in his brain. "Hey! Since they're gonna get the place all fixed up for a wedding, Becca, What about we tie the knot tomorrow as well. Are you willing to take a chance on hooking up with me this soon?"

Trish's face lit up. "Oh that would be perfect, a wedding in paradise. If Becca won't, I will Marsh! I'm game!"

"Hey now! Momma don't you go getting any ideas about stealing my man. I didn't say no. You just didn't give me time to say yes, before you jumped at the opportunity. My only reservation is that I would like to have Marguarita there."

"Oh that shouldn't be a problem," Jimmy chimed in. "Rick and Marguarita work for me and Marsh, so I'll just tell Rick he has to go to Hawaii on company business. They won't have any excuses to that."

Marsh smiled. "Sooooooo? Becca?" Marsh paused. "Do we cancel our tour of the building and go make some phone calls? We have some people to talk to about this."

Becca's eyes started to shine and then to leak. She looked from Marsh to her mother and then her grandfather. "Oh God," she said with a weak voice. "Yes Marsh.... Oh my God! I'm getting married! Momma! I'm getting MARRIED!"

Becca suddenly began to weep. Marsh, Trish and Jimmy all stepped over to Becca and wrapped her in a group hug. "Sweetie," Trish soothed. "What's wrong, honey?"

Becca continued to cry for a couple of minutes, and then she took several deep cleansing breaths and spoke softly. "I just thought about my mom and dad. I wish they were here for this. I miss them so much." She began to sob again, and Trish, Marsh and Jimmy just held her close.

When Becca gathered herself up enough to talk, she looked at the three family members standing around her and holding her tightly. "Thank you for being here for me. Marsh I really do want to marry you and tomorrow is better than later. Mom, I love you! I know why you let Becky and I go, and I love you for what you gave me. I want you to be with me all the way through this and the rest of my life. Grandpa, you've been here for me since you hired me two years ago. I love you, too. I'm so happy right now! Let's go back to the office and make the calls, then let's get outta here!"

All four turned back to the doors and walked briskly back to their offices. On the way Marsh asked Jimmy to call Rick, and Marguarita, while he made the other calls he needed to make.

"Becca," Marsh said. "Why don't you call Leyanni, and discuss what things you want to be sure are included? She is getting this thing set up anyway, so have her expand the menu."

Marsh's memory was not exactly what he would have called photographic, but he seldom had to write anything down. He sat at his desk and dialed the number that Beth Thompson had given him for her parents.

After two rings, a pleasant voice answered the phone. "Thompson Farm. May I help you?"

"Is this Kathy, with a K?" Marsh asked with a chuckle in his voice.

"Yes it is." Came the pleasant reply. "To whom do I have the pleasure of speaking? I don't know the phone number on my caller ID, nor do I recognize the voice. How do you know who I am?

Marsh smiled as he replied. "My name is probably quite unimportant to you right now, Kathy with a K. It's probably more important that I'm going to have a fast airplane in your area in less than three hours, and if you can't be ready, you'll likely need to swim to Hawaii before tomorrow morning."

Oh, and since I have nothing to hide, you may know that I'm Dr. Marshall Mitchel. However," Marsh paused for effect. "If you call me anything besides Marsh, or "that great guy" you might get booted out of my airplane over the Pacific Ocean. I have reliable information you want to be in Hawaii as soon as possible to do some serious damage to my neighbor, and that means you'll call me nice names at least till we get there." Marsh could hardly talk by the time he was finished.

He had heard Kathy gasp a couple of times as he was spouting off. Kathy was laughing out loud by the time Marsh was finished. She replied as quickly as she finished laughing. "Alrighty then, Doctor Marshall Mitchel. You miserable, ornery, son of a mother. If that's how you're going to be, I'll be nice to you until you get me to Hawaii, but I can't promise anything after that."

"Marsh continued to laugh. "I can see this relationship has already started out with a bang! Do you suppose we should change the subject and talk about where I should pick you up in a couple of hours?"

Kathy gave Marsh the name of the town closest to the Thompson's farm where the airport was. She assured Marsh that she and her husband, and children would show up on time and be as good as a farmer's family could be, while riding in his little puddle jumper airplane.

In Kathy's mind, she was picturing Jack's airplane that she had last flown in to the Morrison's party. She had no idea what Marsh was flying. She was in for quite a shock.

Marsh asked Kathy how long it took them to get to the airport, and then promised to call her with five minutes to spare, which meant he would have to call her before he took off from his base. The Gulfstream would be there in about fifteen minutes after takeoff from down here.

After talking to Beth's mother, Marsh called his own ranch. "Sis," Marsh spoke after Rosalea answered the phone. "I need you to help me out. I need you to take down that picture of Becky and Elise, that's hanging in my office. I need you to bring it with you to the airport, when Morgan comes up to pick you up, and I need you to have enough clothes packed for three days at a private resort that is clothing optional."

"Morgan will bring the helicopter up to the ranch and pick you up. He'll take you to San Bernardino, and I'll fly in and pick you up in the jet. Plan on leaving around two this afternoon."

"Holy shit big brother!" Rosie exclaimed. "What's the fucking hurry? Do you think you could at least tell me where I'm going in such an all fired rush? How do you know I don't have plans for the weekend?"

"Listen here, little sister." Marsh responded. "You work for me, and if I tell you that I'm taking you someplace, you'll be where I tell you to be, when I say so. Got it?"

"Well!" huffed Rosie. "If that's the way it's going to be, I'll just cancel my hot date and do as I'm told."

"That's better." Marsh answered. "Hey sis? Can I talk you into coming with me to Hawaii this weekend and attending my wedding tomorrow?" He asked sweetly.

Rosie gasped. "Marsh! Are you serious? Are you taking me to Hawaii? Are you really getting married tomorrow? Really? Marsh, I need to get a new dress for a wedding. I don't have time to get anything."

"Rosie," Marsh asked. "If everybody there was naked, would you still need a new dress?"

"Well, ah, ah, no. I don't suppose I would need a new dress to go nude, but...."

"Bring a nice pair of shorts, and a nice tank top. Bring a couple of bathing suits, and one casual outfit. You'll be good to go. Like I said, the resort is clothing optional. The manager does NOT like textiles, and the group you'll be with is a nudist family. Nobody is likely to be wearing clothes all weekend. And yes, baby sister, I'm getting married. That's why I want the picture. I want Becky and Elise there with me."
