It was three months after the divorce papers had been filed before Grace would allow Katie to meet with Chris.

Since the night Shaun had beaten up his wife the clandestine lover's contact had been confined to the secret mobile phone and delightful as the remote sex had been it was no substitute for the real thing.

Katie dressed carefully for the occasion thankful that the bruising had completely gone. Shaun had taken his company car with him so she had rung for a taxi and at Chris's suggestion also packed an overnight bag.
