(Author's note: This was originally intended to be a four part tale, but time constraints have left the first half sitting on my computer for 18 months and the task unfinished. As I may not (or possibly I may) ever get around to finishing I thought it would be sensible to submit what I have done, especially as the tales are complete in and of themselves.
