"Wow! You think I'm special?" I said with wonder.
"Oh yes, very special." She replied with newfound confidence.
She held me tight and we quickly fell asleep.
My cellphone's ringer interrupted our slumber. I tried not to wake Hilary as I answered the phone.
"Hollywood! Where are you? Come on! We've gotta train to catch!" Chris said excitedly.
"Shit! OK I'm on my way!" I hurriedly gathered my things together.
This departure hurt me the most. I could see Hilary was still asleep. Her face looked angelic against the white sheets of the bed and the sunlight peeking through the drapes that illuminated her golden blonde hair.
And I knew she deserved a better goodbye than what I was forced to give her.
I scribbled out a note and left it on the night stand.
Then I softly kissed her forehead and crept out of the room.
