Katie stared at herself in the mirror, wanting to cry. She thought she looked ridiculous. When she was 7 years old she had promised herself that she would never wear pink. It clashed with her fiery, orange hair. Now, at 22, would be the first time she was going to wear pink since that early age.

It was her sister's wedding. Sara had refused to listen to Katie's pleas and was making the maid-of-honor wear this horrible, bright-pink dress.

In all honesty, Katie didn't look bad. As a matter of fact, she looked gorgeous. Her red hair was in a messy, but stylish, knot on top of her head. The pink didn't do anything to lessen her beauty. The dress was strapless and revealed just the right amount of cleavage. It flared out towards the waist and reached her ankles, but didn't hide the fact that she had a slim figure.

Touching up her mascara, she sighed and made sure she looked presentable. The ceremony had just ended and it was time for pictures. Katie left the bathroom and went outside to the lake, where the rest of the wedding party was already waiting. When she saw Sara, she couldn't help but tear up. Her elder sister was a vision. She ran towards her and hugged her tight.

"Sara you look so beautiful! I'm so happy for you and John. Congratulations big sis." She kissed a smiling Sara on the cheek. The photographer was in the process of arranging everyone for the picture. Katie was just looking around and happened to catch Marc's eye. He grinned and winked at her. She blushed. They had been standing across from each other throughout the ceremony because he was the best man, and he hadn't taken his eyes off of her once. She had hated the way he'd been staring at her during the entire ceremony. Or, more correctly, she hated the way that his staring had given her the chills, and in a good way.

Katie didn't necessarily hate Marc, but she didn't exactly like him either. Marc was the groom's younger brother. He also had an annoying habit of teasing Katie. From the first day that Marc and Katie had met, he had continuously called her "Red." "Red" is the nickname that every redhead despises and Katie was no exception. She had laughed it off at first but eventually had told him to just call her Katie and that she didn't like the nickname. His response had been a grin and, "Okay Red, whatever you want." He annoyed her, simple as that.

Marc Minuto was as manly as they came. He exuded power. He stood at 6'5 and looked as if he were built from pure muscle. His black hair was always a bit messy, but it just made him look that much sexier. His eyes were gray. And Katie could swear that she had never seen a man with more sensuous lips. His skin was always tanned, as a result of his love of the sun and outdoors. He was gorgeous.

He was only 28 but was already one of the most notorious lawyers in New York. Somehow, he was never serious. At this moment, he was sauntering over to Katie with that perpetual grin still on his face

When he finally stopped in front of her, he whistled. "Well Red, you look gorgeous."

Katie knew that Marc looked fantastic, but she didn't want to give him the pleasure of letting him know that as well. "Thanks Marc. You look... uh, handsome."

He laughed and before the conversation could go any further, the photographer came over to them to position them.

Marc stood directly behind Katie. She could almost feel the heat rolling off of his body, and was surprised when her stomach gave a flip. Was she really getting nervous because of Marc? She shook her head, silently laughing to herself.

The photographer was now walking down the line of people, making sure everything was perfect for the photo. He stopped in front of Marc and Katie. "Alright, you two are the maid-of-honor and best man, right?" When they nodded he continued, "Ok. Best Man you put your hand on her waist. Yes, right there. Perfect! Okay, thank you."

As soon as she felt his hand on her waist, her stomach gave another flip and her heart started racing. His hand was warm, and it was big. And it felt perfect on her hip. She almost wanted to lean into it but knew that would be weird.

Finally the photographer got behind his camera. He started counting, "Okay 1, 2, 3!" The bulb flashed. While the photographer was counting again for the second picture, Marc leaned down into Katie's ear. He whispered to her, "Hey are you alright there? I mean, I can feel your heart racing."

The bulb flashed again. The photographer called out, "Hey you two! Best man and maid-of-honor, yes you two. Stop talking!"

Katie apologized and smiled again for the next picture. Without moving her mouth, she hissed at Marc, "Yes, I'm fine. It's nothing."

She felt, rather than heard, his rumbling laugh. The bulb flashed again.

The picture taking went on for another 15 minutes, but to Katie, it felt like hours had passed. To make things worse, Marc's hand had started slowly rubbing her waist. She slapped his hand away, but he just laughed again.

When it was finally over, Marc surprised Katie by leaning in to kiss her on the cheek. "See you at the reception Red." He walked away, grinning over his shoulder.

Him and that stupid grin! She flushed with anger and called after him, "It's Katie!"

Two hours later, Katie pulled up to the hall where the reception was being held. She was thankful that the reception was a bit later, because it gave her time to change into a different dress. She had chosen to wear a simple long, black dress with a v-neck and an open back. She got out of the car and headed towards the hall.

It was a beautiful place. It was situated on the same lake that they had taken pictures at and looked as if it were made of all windows. The room where the party was being held was situated so that it looked out onto the moonlit lake. She had stopped to take in the beauty when she heard an all-too-familiar whistle.

Marc came up behind her and leaned over her shoulder. "Red, you look delicious. Let's go party." He placed a hand on her lower back and walked her to the door. Katie simply glared at him and tried to walk faster to escape his hand, but he kept up with her, laughing the whole way. When they got into the hall, Katie practically ran away from him.

Katie went to talk to all of her family members but couldn't focus on anything that they were saying. She was confused. Why the hell was Marc paying so much attention to her? He usually just teased her and left it at that. Now, he was being all touchy-feely, and surprisingly, she didn't mind it. Yeah, she tried to avoid it, but that was only because she didn't want him to realize how much she liked his touch. While she was thinking all of this, she looked over her shoulder and caught Marc's eye. He was leaning against the bar, drinking out of a bottle of beer, and staring at her. She didn't look away but instead excused herself from the cousin she was talking to and headed over to the bar.

Without breaking eye contact, she spoke to the bartender. "One glass of champagne, please. Whatever you feel like pouring will do just fine." She turned her attention to Marc. "What's up with you tonight?"

He took a long pull from his beer. "Well, to tell you the truth. I don't know. I just want to talk to you."

"Okay... so talk."

He smirked. Then he turned to the bartender. "Hey buddy, give me a bottle of whatever she's drinking and another glass."

The bartender handed him the requested items and Marc grabbed Katie's hand with his open hand. "Let's go, Red."

She followed him, but hesitantly. "Wait! Where are we going?"

"Down by the lake. No worries."

"Oh... okay."

He led her down to the deserted patio, which was situated right above the lake. They sat down at a table and Marc poured them each a glass of champagne.

"Red, tell me about yourself. You're quite the mystery."

"What would you like to know?"

"He chuckled. You're 22, right?" She nodded. "Okay. Are you going to school?"

"Yeah."

"Where?"

She took a sip of her champagne. "I go to Columbia."

He gave a low whistle. "Impressive. What are you studying?"

She grinned a bit. "Actually, Mr. Notorious Lawyer, I'm pre-law"

"No way!"

"Way."

They each smiled at each other for a bit, sipping their champagne. Marc broke the silence again, clearing his throat. "So, do you have any boyfriends at Columbia?"

"Nope. Single and loving it."

"Oh, really?"

"Yes. Now, tell me about yourself. Where did you go to school?"

"I actually also went to Columbia."

"No way!"

Marc laughed. "Hey, that's my line. But yeah, way." He emptied his glass and poured them each another. They continued talking, telling each other all about their lives. Eventually, the bottle of champagne was finished. Katie's cheeks were flushed and Marc was reclined in his seat, his legs propped up on the table.

Marc said, "You know something. This is probably the best party I've ever been to."

She laughed out loud, "Oh, really. All we've been doing is talking for the past hour and a half."

He dropped his legs and got up. He walked over to her, planting himself right in front of her. He leaned forward, placing his hands on her armrests, effectively trapping her. Her breath caught when he moved his face even closer to hers. "Exactly."

Before she knew what was happening, his mouth crashed down over hers. At first she was too stunned to respond to his kiss. But eventually, she leaned into him and wrapped her arms around his neck. When she felt his tongue run along her lower lip, she opened her mouth to him. His tongue delved inside, and she tried to press herself closer to him.

"Oh, wow!"

Marc and Katie broke apart and looked to the source of the noise. The bride and groom had come out to the patio, to get away from the party for a bit. Katie flushed bright red when she saw Sara gaping at them. The groom, John, was smirking. Marc seemed nonplussed. "Hey big brother. What's up?"

John said, "Well, Katie and I just wanted to have some time alone but we can go somewhere else..."

Katie cleared her throat, "No! It's fine. We were just headed back to the party anyway. Come on, Marc."

She grabbed Marc by the hand and led him past the newlyweds and into the hall. When she heard him chuckling, she spun around and punched him in the shoulder.

"Hey! What was that for?"

"Hello! Our siblings just saw us making out like a pair of 15-year olds!"

"Wanna do it again?"

"You're so frust..."

She got cut off when his mouth once again caught hers in a brief kiss. He leaned down until his forehead was touching hers and said, "Red, just stop talking for a second. I want to see you again"

"I'm sorry?"

"I want to take you out."

"Like on a date?"

"Yes, like on a date."

She stared up at him for a few seconds. Was Marc Minuto really asking her out? The guy that got on her nerves until she felt like she would scream? The guy that had just kissed her so skillfully that she wanted to do it again and again?

"Okay."

He smiled at her. "Okay. Come dance with me."

He pulled her back into the room where the party was being held and immediately spun her in close to his body. They swayed to the slow song and he grinned down at her, happy that she was in his arms. He leaned down to kiss her but Katie placed her hands on his chest and shook her head.

"Not in front of everyone! I don't want them to talk."

His brow furrowed and he let out a sigh. "Fine." The song ended and they both started laughing hysterically when the next song came on. It was "Let's Give them Something to Talk About" by Bonnie Raitt.

Eventually the party came to an end. When Katie's cousin called her over to say goodbye, she looked up at Marc and surprised him by going on her tiptoes to give him a kiss on the cheek. "See ya later, okay?"

He nodded and smiled. "I'll call you tomorrow to make sure that you didn't die on the way home." She shook her head and walked over to her cousin, who was also her ride home for the evening.

Zoe was not only Katie's cousin, but was also one of her best friends. When Katie walked over to Zoe, Zoe crossed her arms and shook her head.

"Zoe, what's wrong?"

"Do you think I'm stupid? Or, for that matter, blind? Everyone saw the way you and Mr. Hotshot were acting tonight. What's going on and don't leave out any details. Spill."

Katie blushed bright red. "Uh, well he asked me out."

"That's not all."

Katie didn't answer the question. "Come on Zoe let's just go home."

"Katie, you kissed him! Oh my god. But, I thought you hated him. Don't get me wrong he is probably the most gorgeous man I've ever had the pleasure of laying eyes on, and he's fabulously rich to boot, but where'd the hate disappear to?"

"I never hated him, he just annoyed me sometimes. The only thing he really ever did wrong was call me 'Red.'"

Zoe shook her head once again and slung her purse over her shoulder. She grabbed Katie by the hand and they both went to say goodbye to the newlyweds, wishing them luck and offering congratulations yet again.

When Katie was saying goodbye to her sister, Sara couldn't help but smirk.

"So Katie, you and Marc? He's always had a crush on you, you know."

"Wait, what? He has?"

"Yep. He's been asking me to help him out for as long as I've known him but I just kept telling him that if it were meant to be it'd happen. I'm so happy for you though! Marc's a great guy."

Katie couldn't help but just stare open-mouthed at her sister. Marc had wanted to be with her for a while? She wished that she'd known. Suddenly the name "Red," didn't seem so condescending. Now, it just seemed... well sweet. It definitely wasn't original, but she liked having a nickname from him.

"Earth to Katie! Come on, I'm taking you home."

Zoe was snapping her fingers impatiently in Katie's face.

"Sorry Zo. Bye Sara. I love you."

When Katie crawled into her bed that night, she couldn't help but shake her head at the evening's events. She stayed up for hours just thinking of the way his lips moved against hers.

The next day, Katie was in the kitchen making herself a sandwich for lunch when her phone rang.

"Hello, this is Katie speaking. Who's calling?"

She smiled to herself when she heard the deep, rumbling laugh on the other end.

"Well, hello there Miss Katie. This is Marc. Listen, I'm at work right now but I was just wondering if you had any plans tonight."

"Um... no I don't."

"Okay good. I'll pick you up at seven. Wear something casual. See ya later."

She wasn't even able to reply before he hung up the phone. What an arrogant asshole!

She finished making her sandwich and ate at the little table, thinking to herself.

Should she actually go out with him? He wasn't a bad guy. But at the same time he was a bit cocky. Strangely though? That turned her on. Immensely. He knew what he wanted and he wasn't afraid to go after it.

A few hours later, Katie was fixing up her makeup when the doorbell rang.

"Just a sec!"

She finished applying the mascara and ran down the stairs to open the door.

Marc whistled when he saw her.

Katie had decided to wear a pair of jeans and a plain white tee-shirt. The tee had a v-neck that revealed just the right amount of cleavage. The necklace that she was wearing also drew attention to that fact. She was weaering boots that made her just a tad bit taller. Her hair was flowing down her back, looking brighter than ever.

Marc had also settled on a pair of jeans. He wore these with a black tee-shirt and a leather jacket. The way the tee was stretching across his chest revealed just how much time he devoted to the outdoors and keeping fit.

Marc waved a bouquet of flowers in front of him. "I brought these for you."

Katie was surprised by this act. He just didn't seem like the flower-giving person. "Thank you! Come in for a second while i find something to put them in."

Marc came in and Katie ran to the kitchen quick to put the flowers in a vase. When she was done, she ran back out to the foyer and saw Marc leaning against the door, waiting for her.

"Ready to go Red?"

"You bet."

Katie grabbed her purse off a hook and they walked outside to his truck, a Jeep Cherokee.

Katie said, "Wow, this isn't the car that I would've expected you to drive."

"Why is that?"

"I dont know. You're a high-class lawyer and you're driving around in a truck. I would've expected an Audi or a Mercedes."

"Those cars are nice but Jeeps are the best for camping and carrying my surfboard and bikes." He rapped on the hood with his knuckles. "I've always driven Jeeps, even back in high school."

She was surprised for the second time that night when Marc sped up to walk in front of her, and opened her door for her.

"I guess chivalry isn't completely dead."

He grinned. "Nope, I'm your every-day knight in shining armor."

She climbed in and when he got in as well, asked, "So, where are we going?"

"Ah, my friend owns a restaurant. He offered to give me a private room. Is that okay?"

She smiled at him, "That's fine."

The drive to the restaurant was pretty quiet. Surprisingly, it wasn't awkward. They were surprised to learn that they shared the same taste in music though. Billy Joel and Paul McCartney played on the radio the entire way there.

When they pulled up at the restaurant, a very popular place called "Les Food," he turned to her and smilingly said, "Don't you dare open that door yourself Red."

She laughed out loud when he jogged around the car and opened the door after her, speaking in a horrible british accent. "After you Miss Katie."

He grabbed her hand and led her to the door. Reaching in front of them to open that door for her as well.

The place was packed. It was a young, hip crowd. He was right though when he had told her to dress casual. Although the place looked almost like a nightclub, most people were wearing jeans and tee-shirts.

When Marc gave the hostess his name, they were led all the way to the back of the restaurant and into a private room. The room followed the nightclub theme. There was a leather couch in the corner. The walls were painted red and the table was very modern looking. A bottle of wine was already sitting in a metal bucket. A chandelier hung over the table and one wall was decorated entirely with circular mirrors.

"Thank you," Marc said to the hostess. When the girl left the room, he looked around and said, "Wow. Bill's been trying to get me to come here but I've never found the time. This is pretty awesome isn't it?"

Katie was in awe. "Yes, it really is!"

He laughed at her enthusiasm and walked over to the table, pouring them each a glass of wine. He gestured towards the couch in the corner and Katie sat down and took her glass from him. He sat next to her. Their thighs were touching, but he wasn't so close as to make her uncomfortable.

They spoke about every little thing. The only interruption being the waiter, who knocked on the door and took their orders. When the food finally came, they sat at the table and ate. Katie had ordered a lemony chicken dish and Marc had settled on the steak. The food was delicious. They continued talking throughout dinner.

Katie was amazed by how much she was enjoying herself. Marc had made her laugh and smile countless times. And that grin of his was making her pulse race. He had kept glancing at her lips, insinuating that he wanted to taste them again, but the food had come before anything happened.

When Marc and Katie finished their meals, they went back over to the couch and had another glass of wine.

"Katie?"

"Yes?"

"I really want to kiss you again."

She smiled and blushed. "Okay." He took the wine glass out of her hand and set it back on the table before returning to her.

Marc stood in front of her and pulled her to her feet. As soon as she was standing, he wrapped his arms around her waist and slanted his mouth over hers. Katie had to stand on her tiptoes to reach him, but she didn't mind. She loved being pressed close to him. He was all muscle and man and she loved it. She ran her hands over her shoulders and let out a tiny moan when she felt just how strong he really was. Marc left one hand on Katie's waist but brought the other up to tangle in her hair. Katie couldn't get enough of him. She pulled away from him, gasping. "Oh, God!"
