Éire Nua (New Ireland), Mac Suibhne System, Twelve Light Years from Terra
One of the original six colony planets and the furthest from Terra until the great expansion. Éire Nua became one of the six founding planets of Union of Planets (one of the stars in the seven stars of the Union Flag) later to be known as the Terran Union.
It's distance from Terra meant that it would always be in the Terran sphere of influence once the FTL drive was developed and even before. The system was named after the Gaelic name of its founder Sean Sweeney, the Mac Suibhne family being one of the ten richest in Union space.
O'Neil, Bridget, MCPO Boatswain of The Wanderer. - (Literally owns the ship as she actually signed for it). Originally from Éire Nua, 52 years as of her appointment to the ship in Feb. 2485. First seen in chapter twenty-six.

HD-115153 Star System, One hundred and Thirty-Two Light Years from Terra
A numbered star system where the pirate syndicates had built a mining platform to support a shipbuilding station that refit retired Fairling Class Frigates into capable fighting vessels. The station had rebuild some of the ships that had attacked Liramor-23 in the Second Battle of Liramor-23.
- Liramor-30 Mining PlatformOriginally owned by a pirate consortium, it was built to provide refined metals to the shipbuilding station in the system. Small platform built with no more than 4,000 personnel. It was offered to Liramor Holdings due principally to the fact that Liramor-23 was attacked by ships built by the shipbuilding station that the platform originally supplied. First seen in chapter twenty-nine.
- Pallanders 4 Shipbuilding StationOriginally owned by a pirate syndicate, this station was intended to be used to refit the pirate fleet. It had successfully refit several Fairling Class Frigates before being confiscated by the TGA. Pallanders was offered the control of the station due principally to the good work they had done for the TGA and the Union Navy. First seen in chapter twenty-nine.
Green's World, Harn System, Twenty Light Years from Terra
- Harn City, Green's World, Harn System, Twenty Light Years from Terra
Green's World was first inhabited by human's in 2384, not long after the invention of the FTL drive. It was named after the expedition leader, Martin Green. The planet was almost tailor made for human habitation. Its flora and fauna were edible by human's and it had no large predators. It contained the same mineral content as Terra had, which meant that the planet could make all of its machinery without having to trade for material to complete it.
Its location, 20ly from Terra, meant it would be a natural stopping point for early FTL drive ships, which tended to have 20-25ly bounds or less. Human population on the planet expanded quickly and the development of one of the early major universities off Terra provided for a well educated citizenry.
The expedition to the Harn system was funded by Wilfred Harn, a major industrialist on Terra. He had wanted his name associated with a Mars type planet in the system. As a result, Green's World was named after the expedition leader, Martin Green, though the major city was named Harn City as a concession to the industrialist.
The Green family is the wealthiest family on the planet with Green Holdings owning outright or in partnership with almost every major business on the planet.

Hadrian's Planet, Danner System, 142ly from Terra
Hadrian's Planet is currently the furthest planet from Terra of all the planets in the Union and the newest colony world. It has only been colonized for 25years; a year less than Liramor-23 has been in use.
Has just completed stage two of four stages to certification as a full Union planetary partner. The population has just reached one billion inhabitants, though the planet is still sparsely inhabited.

Hollander's World, Sullivan System, Sixty Light Years from Terra
One hundred years after the founding of Éire Nua(New Ireland), and before the great expansion, the planet sent out a multi-generational colony ship to a planet listed as human habitable 30ly further out from Éire Nua and 60ly on a tangent from Terra. On a direct line from the Piscium System it is currently 196ly from Liramor-23.
It took 54 years for the colony ship to make the one way trip. Over the ensuing voyage, the ship lost contact with its home world and the expedition was presumed lost until the invention of the FTL drive and the rediscovery of the lost expedition/world. By then, several generations of humans and their animals had expanded on the planet.
Hollander's world is a human habitable world orbiting around a brown dwarf star. The planet orbits closer to the star than Terra does to Sol. The location is in the habitable sweet spot of the system, giving the planet a stable climate similar to the temperate zones on Terra. However, the radiation from the star is slightly stronger than that of Sol to Terra, giving the population an odd coppery hue to their skin and changing the makeup of their hair.
Being a brown dwarf star means that not all frequencies of light are available on the world and the people of Hollander's world have adopted to darker hues of light. While the population still sees all normal human colours, (due to the use of full spectrum lights that mimicked Sols light) they have excellent night vision compared to most humans.
The planet's flora and fauna are not usable for nourishment by humans principally due to the inclusion of extra nucleotides unique to the planet and not usable by human physiology. While not particularly poisonous to humans, the ingestion was not considered healthy. The same is true in reverse, humans and Terran animals being unhealthy to the carnivores of the planet. Fortunately, human plants are able to take what is needed from the soil and leave behind the other nucleotides. It took many years for the colony to develop a sustainable food source from seeds and a small core of animals brought with the colony ship. Once this happened, the colony expanded smoothly across the planet.
Scherm, AdamHistorical figure of Hollander's World who, as a boy, first melded with what became known as Scherm's Cats, an indigenous species of animals that are highly emphatic with the members of their immediate 'family' group. Then a young toddler, Adam referred to the animals as 'Cats' because that was what they most closely resembled in the young boy's mind.
They are not cats, more like lizards but warm blooded, though they do have fur. Their bones are mostly cartilaginous masses that allow them to squeeze through holes much smaller than their body mass thus making it almost impossible to keep them out of human habitats.
Scherm's cats were highly dangerous because of their emphatic ability, which allowed them to sense when they were about to be attacked. They could never be trapped or killed in close quarters. Despite their being dangerous animals, they made excellent and highly trustworthy pets once they bonded with a human, human emphatic abilities being such that the animals almost preferred the human bond to that of their own kind.
Scherm's Cats use their emphatic abilities to hunt, protect their family groups, identify the members of their family group, and identify other members of their species not within their family group. The melding of Scherm with the cats enhanced his emphatic ability, a trait which was carried on down the line of his progeny eventually producing humans on Hollander's World with very a high degree of natural emphatic ability.
Roughly half of the people of Hollander's World are emphatic in nature due to the legacy of Adam Scherm and Scherm's Cats on their progeny. These people have the ability to sense emotions in others. Those with higher emphatic abilities tend to drift towards trades that can make use of that ability, the medical, social, and security services amongst them.
Empaths tend to have a much more flexible outlook on cultural customs and sex than do the non-emphatic people of Hollander's World as they can sense who will respond to them without having to ask. The people of Hollander's World who show high emphatic abilities come to be governed by The Council of Empaths which tends to direct them to a life of servitude for the people.
While a good portion of the people on Hollander's World are empaths, most are severely limited in what they can do. Only those that show stronger power are invited to become full members of the Council of Empaths and, as a result, only average empaths and above are given full membership. Something lightly less than 350 million of Hollander's World's two billion inhabitants are members in the Council of Empaths.
Congress, TheA Congress is a group of mature empaths who come together to help themselves heal and to connect with other empaths on intimate levels that only empaths can. A Congress can be convened for many reasons as the power that emanates from the Congress can be used to do great good.
A Congress is formed of five or more members. The larger the group, the more the group can do. However, the larger the group, the stronger the leading empath or empaths must be in order to direct the group to where it's power needs to be employed.
