Chapter 1: A New Life

Disclaimer- I have used information from other sources and put my own spin on things. The names of people, creatures, and places may be borrowed, but they have been adapted for my needs. As such, in this world things are possibly different than you may know or have heard.

Story Notes: This story takes place in a medieval world, swords, shields, bow and arrows, magic, mythological monsters and deities, demons, devils and more. Our protagonist is an adventurer discovering who she is and who she is to become. It will feature many different tags as it progresses, so if one chapter doesn't fit your liking maybe a future one will. The main theme is lesbian romance and the acts they can do in a magical world. The chapters are going to be lengthy at times, but I might try to break them up. I don't know if this being a story with sex instead of sex with a story if long chapters are good or bad. It starts off slow with sex but at times it could be the entire chapter.

The sun has just come up over the horizon on this cool spring morning. Sia sits at the base of a tree, leaned against it, on the edge of a small clearing. There are three large does along with two fawns grazing on the fresh grass, oblivious of her presence. The sky is almost completely void of clouds, and yet the few clouds that there are draw Sia's attention. She lazily watches them float along slowly in the mild wind.

As she sits there in the peacefulness of the morning and surroundings her mind wanders. She thinks about what her future holds, her relationship with Zaina, their future together, and her reoccurring dream. She has grown bored with her hometown. Living there her whole life has become monotonous, even the excellent hunting has become stagnant. The death of her parents a few years back only seems to push her away from this place. The only reason to stay is Zaina. What of Zaina? Will she go with her or stay behind? Is leaving worth losing her? Does she care enough to make Sia want to stay? These questions reoccur more than her dream these days.

Sia remembers her latest dream. In her dream she sees, from her own point of view, herself elevated above a battle field roughly twenty-five feet. This along is enough to make her heart race, her fear of heights a serious problem at times. Her vision is as though she were looking through red glass and the center of her vision is highly focused and everything else is slightly blurred. As she looks before her, the ground is scorched black and there are several bodies blackened and burning on the ground. She approaches the nearest corps when a strange feeling comes over her. She looks up to see a figure floating, her same height, about forty yards from her.

The humanoid figure is shadowy, and the appearance is disguised. The being is roughly six feet tall. It has its left hand to the center of its forehead and a hand stretched toward her. A strange feeling stirs within Sia, her vision grows darker with red and everything outside her focal point becomes blurred and unrecognizable. In a flash she is point blank to the shadowy figure and then she wakes up. The dream is nearly the same every time, small variations from dream to dream different time frames.

Sia is brought back to focus by the sight and sound of a large buck with a massive rack breaking through some branches and entering the clearing. These deer are similar to the common whitetail but are roughly twenty percent bigger and the bucks maintain their horns their whole lives. It joins the other deer before looking and spotting Sia. Sia just stares back at him, her bow laying on the ground beside her. He breaks eye contact first and begins to feed, paying her no attention. Sia has no desire to kill this animal anymore than the three doe that were there before him, she sighs to herself and begins to stand. Immediately the deer take notice and flee in alert. Sia picks up her bow and starts a slow walk home. The mile at this pace will take a while.

A short time into the walk she hears a man's voice.

"Sia, it is good to see you have recovered so quickly." The voice speaks, Sia immediately stops and not being able to locate the voice she listens. "It was quite the battle, but here you are seemingly unscathed. That is not the case for the others, you showed no mercy. I believe that is what I like best about you."

"I don't know what you are talking about. Why don't you come out and talk to me face to face instead of hiding?" Sia replies trying to listen carefully to locate the voice.

"It is time Sia." The voice says forcefully. "You will help me defeat my enemies and I will give you what you lost."

"Why don't you show yourself." Sia answers nocking an arrow. The voice is not familiar, but she gets a feeling within her that this is not a friendly encounter.

The wind picks up and with an explosion of fire a man appears twenty yards in front of her. Sia's fear of fire, which is greater than her fear of heights, stops her heart and her legs tremble. The man is human and dressed in black leather with a long sword sheathed on his left side. He has short black hair and mustache. His appearance is well kept in all regards. Sia senses an aura of power radiating from him, but she doesn't know why.

"Why would I help you?" Sia says and draws her bow on him, her shaky aim is on his face.

The man looking back at Sia sees a human, barely in her twenties, a few inches short of six foot, dressed in leather armor and boots. The leather is dark brown, tight and thick, it conceals her figure. She has light brown hair which is pulled back to pony tail and the pony tail is bunched up at back of her head. Her dark blue eyes are normally steady, but her deathly fear of fire has them jumpy. Even dressed in such a manner and lack of attention to her appearance, Sia is beauty to be sure. A face so beautiful, fit for a sorceress not a hardened warrior.

"I was wrong earlier. It isn't your lack of mercy that I enjoy most, it's your boldness." He scoffs and starts to move to his left keeping his distance. "This life you're living is a lie. You are not from that small town and those people are not your friends. Haven't you wondered why they treat you so poorly and send you out on dangerous missions?" He waits for Sia to reply, she does not. "They don't want you there. None of this life of yours is real. It was just a distraction for you until I was ready for my revenge."

"You're trying my patients." Sia says drawing the bow string tighter, her confidence returning with the fire out. "What do you want with me?"

"Do you think that pathetic bow can hurt me?" he smiles confidently.

"Only one way to find out." She replies.

"You will help me. Maybe I need to motivate you." He says, his smile turning wicked. "This is your last chance to agree to help me and regain your life! Refuse and I will destroy everything you hold dear, and you are helpless to save her!"

Sia releases her arrow, it flies true and when it hits him in the face he disperses into smoke and is gone. Sia surveys the area but sees no sign of him.

"Remember Sia, I tried to help you. All I asked was for a little help and I could have returned you to your true self. But now I will take her from you and there is nothing you can do." His voice sounds calm and menacing around her.

Sia rushes home thinking about the thought he has planted in her head. The people, for the most part, are not very friendly to her. They treat her cold, unless they need something done, work or danger is near. Sia's incredible strength and warrior ability make her a valuable defender of the village. The more she thinks about it the more she recognizes the dislike the town shows for her, especially after the death of her parents. Not everyone, but for the most part and those that are not outright cold are silent and avoid her, speaking only with no choice.

As Sia approaches the town she can see a bright light breaking through the trees. As she enters the clearing she can see a large fire burning in the town. The sight of the fire paralyzes her.

She has never been fond of fire and avoids it when possible, but since the death of her parents, in a house fire, her fear is overwhelming. A mere torch causes her great anxiety and she avoids camp fires at all cost. It is a good thing the cold doesn't bother her, because she refuses to be near a flame.

She stares at the town and tries to gain her breath. As she looks around she tries to determine what is burning by the position of the flames. After a long moment she starts to determine that it is near her home. Her heart stops as she forces herself to move to get a better view. The words of the stranger echo in her head, "I will take her from you and there is nothing you can do." Against her own fear she starts walking toward the town, trembling and heart pounding within her. When she gets an angle on the fire she sees that it isn't her house, but Zaina's house. Immediately she freezes and is unable to breath seeing the town folk gathered around watching the blaze. Suddenly she remembers Zaina standing in a doorway smiling at her and she feels overly compelled to act, she drops her bow and arrows. Stumbling at first to move but soon she is running full stride toward the fire. As she looks through the crowd she doesn't see Zaina. She finds Zaina's brother, Mikel, and approaches him.

"Where is Zaina?" Sia asks frantically, he turns from her and faces the fire again. Sia roughly turns him back. "Where is she?!"

"She is inside!" He yells at her. "I told her to stay away from you! Why didn't she listen?"

Sia looks at the house almost completely enveloped in flames. She sees the front door and without a thought charges the house, no one protests. Sia knocks the door in and stumbles into the main room. With the flames raging, her vision is nearly gone. She calls out but can't hear anything but the roar of fire. She eventually sees Zaina's body on the floor burned almost unidentifiable. Time seems to stop for Sia as she looks at her fallen friend. Some of the roof collapses as Sia turns slowly back the way she came. As she walks, time is slowed for her. The fire lashes at her, pieces of the house fall in around her and she without a care walks out of the house. Her mind is blank, she feels nothing and is processing even less. She gets outside when most of the roof collapses and the fire has reached its full power. She continues her walk as Zaina's brother confronts her.

"I told her to stay away from you, but she wouldn't listen. You are a monster and we should have killed you the day you came here!" He informs her with sadness in his eyes and anger in his voice. "We will fix that now."

As he says this Sia feels the intense heat on her back relent. Knowing someone is approaching her, she turns around. Her mind is still cloudy and everything slow motion and emotionless. She sees a man with a sword drawn back for the attack.

As he swings Sia uses her left hand to bat away his attack, in a dazed effortless move. She then punches him solidly in the chest. The force of the attack throws him backward through the air and through the burning door of the house. He screams for only a short moment before the fire overtakes him.

Sia turns back around to see several more people standing with Mikel. They all have short swords drawn, people she has never seen before even hold a weapon, now stand against her.

"A monster?" She mumbles. "I knew we weren't exactly friends, but I never thought enemies."

Without any more words they attack her. Sia easily handles them and leaves them beaten on the ground, alive. As if in a trance she walks away from them headed out of town when she feels a dart hit her in the back. She immediately is snapped back to normal thoughts as her body weakens. She removes the dart, but it is too late. She staggers toward a house, leans her back to it and slides down uncontrollably to a seated position on the ground. She is unable to move her body at all. Her eyes move slowly and take great effort. Out of the shadows the man from the forest approaches.

"You are strong indeed." He says with a wicked smile, crouching in front of her. "That poison was deadly, never have I seen anyone survive a dose, but I guess I knew that you would be the first. That is why I need your help. Join me and I will return you to yourself."

Sia screams in anger, in her head, but her body lies motionless. Her eye lids become heavy and they slowly close. When they are completely closed she sees a vision of a beautiful woman's face with long flowing golden hair. A feeling of comfort starts to grow within her. Her eyes pop back open as the man slaps her face once, moderately hard.

"Oh no, stay with me Sia." He smiles turning her face back to him. "If the poison was going to kill you it would have already, but I am not going to let you sleep either." Sia can see the beaten town members are now approaching behind the man. "This is your last chance." He draws her attention. "Help me and I will restore you to your former self. Or, I let them kill the monster they fear." He pauses a moment for her to think. "Blink twice if you're with me." Sia closes her eyes. "That is too bad. If only you could remember what you are throwing away, such a waste. These people never cared for you, you're a monster to them. And now they are going to kill you and you are helpless to stop it."

"Leave her alone!" Sia hears, she opens her eyes to see an older lady, one man's wife, confronting the crowd. "She hasn't done anything to any of us except try to help and be a friend." The woman explains.

The crowd pushes her aside as the man from the woods stands and backs away from Sia.

"I have lost my sister." Mikel says looking with hate toward Sia.

"And I a wife. She didn't care for you. She was going to marry me." Another man bursts in.

"Now we will right that wrong." Mikel continues

"What is going on?" Sia thinks. "Such hate in their eyes, am I a monster? What have I done? Who am I?" Sia continues to try and move, but to no avail, she closes her eyes. "Goddess..."

"Leave her alone!" Sia hears the old woman yell from considerably closer than she was a moment ago.

Sia sees the beautiful woman's face again, the feeling of comfort overtakes her quickly this time. She hears the men gasp and their movement stop.

"Now you're in for it." The woman says with a mocking tone. "She's going to kill you all now."

Sia opens her eyes and sees her fingers are moving and soon the rest of her begins to move slowly as if thawing. Mikel sees their opportunity slipping away and jumps toward her stabbing his short sword at her chest. Sia rolls to her left out of the way and quickly stands, all the poison effects are gone.

"Impossible, there is no way you have survived that poison and recovered so quickly." The man from the woods says in disbelief.

Sia doesn't say a word as she stares down her would be killers as they stand before her. They are visibly nervous about Sia being in such good condition, but they don't back down. Sia is more viscous with her attacks this time and leaves the men alive, but badly beaten. They suffer broken bones and lasting effects from this round with her and none are conscious at its end. She then turns to the man from the woods.

"Commoners, that is all they were." He says. "Don't think for a moment you stand a chance against me, not in that condition anyway." He scoffs and starts walking to Sia's right, keeping his distance. "I can see the confusion and wonder on your face. I suppose I could tell you, after all you're about to die and there is no way you can undo the spell. All I asked was that you help me, and I could have given you back your life and power."

"Tell me, who am I?" Sia asks. "Am I a monster?"

"Yes, you are a monster." He replies with wicked smile. "A powerful monster that would have made a great ally, but now you will just be a dead human."

"What am I?" Sia asks. "What am I?!" She repeats with impatience and anger.

He raises his left hand as a ball of magic with electric circulating around it appears. "You were a dragon Sia." Seeing disbelief on her face he continues. "Think about it, did the burning building have any effect on you, other than burn your armor?" Sia looks down and for the first time notices her armor is scorched and has fire damage throughout. "Yet not even your hair was singed." When it starts to become likely in Sia's mind he regains her attention. "Good bye Sia!"

She focuses to see the ball collide with her. It is a mixture of a burning feeling and electrocution covering her entire body. Her body tenses from the magic as she falls to her knees, unable to catch her breath. Just as she is about to collapse the spell ends.

"Impressive." He mumbles, and another magic sphere appears, same spell.

Sia sees the woman's face from her mind again, this time Sia's eyes are open. "A dragon." The woman repeats to Sia.

Sia sighs and forces herself to stand. He releases the spell again and Sia is enveloped in the magic sphere's effects, this time is different however. As if she is standing in front of a solid white door, in her mind, she steps through. In a flash her form changes and she is looking down on the man from the woods and the spell has dissipated. He growls in anger as she lunges down to bite him. He vanishes, and her jaws snap shut on nothing. She looks around and doesn't see him anywhere, she then turns back human.

Sia stares at the ground for a moment trying to get a hold of the situation. Everything looks different to her now. She also notices her armor is repaired and in prime condition.

"Sia." The woman from the village says standing behind her, Sia is unresponsive. "Sia, you have to go." The voice sounding far off to Sia, she turns around slowly. "You can't stay here. I am sorry for the way I treated you. I was afraid of you and didn't..." She stops herself.

"Was anything real?" Sia asks softly.

"You." She replies.

"What about Zaina?" Sia asks, the woman lowers her face to the ground.

"There is nothing here for you Sia. Go find out who you are." The woman says looking back up to her.

Sia walks away from the woman and enters her house. She picks up her axe and some adventuring gear and leaves. As she looks around one last time outside her door she sees the men she beat down slowly starting to come around. She turns away and walks out of town picking up her bow along the way.

As Sia makes her way through the woods, toward no particular destination, her mind tries to comprehend the events of the morning. She walks along for a while when a bright flash and immediately a loud crack of thunder gain her attention. She stops in her tracks and looks up to see a storm has completely overtaken her unaware. The clouds look hostile and Sia looks for cover. After a short run through a light rain of large drops she finds a cave ahead. She can hear the sound of the rain increasing in the short distance on the trees. Just as she enters the cave opening the rain breaks loose. Sia cannot see five feet outside the cave through the rain, the roar is so that the tremendous thunder and lightning are barely seen or heard.

The cave entrance is big enough that Sia didn't have to duck and wider than she can reach with arms stretched out. With no light she is unable to see just how deep this cave is and kneels near the entrance to rest.

The weight of the situation catches up with her in her stillness. She breaks down and starts crying, quickly that turns to anger as she casts off any care for the people, she thought she knew. She goes through waves of calm and waves of heavy crying as she tries to cope to being alone. She reaches up and touches her holy symbol, which has always given her a sense of peace and strength, she then clinches it tightly. The small symbol of a round shield with a sword diagonally across it fits almost completely hidden in her hand.
