She almost whispered the next bit, looking me right in the eye. "But do you?" she asked, waiting expectantly for the answer.
"Samantha, please, don't ask me that."
Again, quieter. "Do you?"
I sighed, looking down, dismayed at the way that this conversation has gone. Should I say yes, with all the complications that will ensue, or no, and possibly hurt her quite badly, judging by how open and insecure she looked right now.
"Samantha," I said, softly. "You're an attractive, intelligent, mature young woman. And I'm a sexually active man."
She was still looking at me, waiting
Make or break time.
I answered.
"Of course I do."
