"I...I was just thinking about your father," Nancy lied. "I...I'll be OK."
Dawn walked over, knelt down, hugged her mother, and kissed her gently on the cheek. "I know how you feel," she said softly. "Sometimes thinking about Dad makes me cry, too. You sure you'll be OK?"
"I'll be fine, Honey," Nancy said. "I think I'll go to bed, too."
"OK," her daughter said. "See you in the morning. I love you."
