She sighed at the ridiculousness of her anger. It wasn't like it was his fault. He hadn't put Dalaria in the way of Anathane's happiness. But all the same, the succubus felt like he'd done something wrong. Jack wasn't stupid, but he was weak in the sense that he didn't know how to comfort his woman. It pained Nyx's black heart to see Anathane cry.
"She loves him, Ekana. She really found love after all these long ages. And now she might lose it."
Volna commented, "This isn't like her. She's our rock, the foundation of this whole damned adventure." The demon groaned. "Why's she like this now in the hour we most need her to be strong?"
"She's in love," Ekana spat disgustedly. "And it's screwing with her head."
"No, Ekana. Love is not the reason. Love made her strong enough to defy Dalaria. Hell, it was Jack that made her strong enough to defy that blatant worm in the first place."
"Then what shook her up so badly?!" Ekana snarled, flexing long talons in frustration.
Nyx simply gave the truth.
"Anathane is scared."

Anonymousover 3 years agoI hate being one of those people "oh this is getting way too inconsistent oh I'm so done with you, oh why did you have to go there and write about that one thing I didn't like"... but I just have one major thing to point out: the battle was supposed to be imminent, like THAT DAY, because Helena was performing. This assumes warp travel for the army, I'm sure. Plus, Kan was very conveniently making an escape attempt at the same time as they were about to attempt the rescue. That's way too important to drop for literal in-world months. I suspect you were putting off writing the battle because it wouldn't even have any cuddly moments or sexual tension in it. I'm done complaining now, time for Chapter 23.
Anonymousover 13 years agoDon't care when the next chapter arrives as long as it arrives. Okay, I do want it sooner rather than later, just don't wan't the author to get burned out before the whole story is finished (still want to know what happens to Jack's relationship with Sam).
Anyway, the chapter is great as always, keep 'em cumming!
