Blossom smiled, "Another trip back to the schoolhouse. Sounds fun."
Mary smiled, "What is your idea?"

He smiled, "I do a live demonstration you 2 have to be there and participate. You have to identify 2 females in the group for this, and one I would only do in the ass at the schoolhouse. Same for the other but in her cunt."

Mary smiled, "I like the idea. We should keep the communication mental with Myssara and she can bring them forward."

Humans, half-elves, or dwarves only for the other four. I want those who have struggled in training the most to fill out the party. The other couples at least."
He handed her a sheet of paper; "The starting background. Might even be a new starting point in your world."

biglazydogabout 1 month agoI agree with all of your general points. Again, I think the story is very interesting.
But one thing to note, just because a story is linear doesn't make it bad. There are many amazing linear games (old and new). I think if Raven want's to argue for some more open world mechanics or PvP mechanics then he should do that. But, there is nothing inherently wrong with a linear game - some of the best games are linear. And some of the most famous "open world" games only employ a veneer of "open world" the story is often (usually even) linear even if the movement feels unrestricted.
The biggest issue, I think is that Raven get get very aggressive and whiney when he doesn't like something. And often his dislike is much more subjective than he seems to admit it is. For example, the wagon master not behaving like Mr. Spock and instead having an aggressive emotional reaction to him. Is not inherently bad, it might even be normal for a person in this setting who wants to not be cuckolded. Yet Raven whines incessantly about it, because the wagon master's character wasn't what he personally wanted it to be. Raven used his "free will" poorly here to reveal himself as a royal courier to the guards and caravan drivers. And he used it poorly to proposition a married woman (bad for group dynamics, even according to Raven) who he hoped to work for.
Then he has the gall to be mean and act like that was his goddesses fault. I hope, maybe in some future installment, you find a way to mellow him out as an adult.
EmotionalStormabout 1 month agoAuthorThis begins with the New Game Master, followed by the Next Game Master. This is the 3rd part, yet a new series. The New Game Master explains how he got to this world, The next Game Master explains his transition into accepting this new reality, yet turning the tables by establishing his retirement plan; as he calls it. The ability to become like Mother if he so chooses.
It's this turning of the tables that keeps him from getting smote for things those locally born cannot complain about. The entire premise for each 'life' in a new campaign in a role-playing game. In the 1980s-the 1990s RPG games started moving from a linear environment from A to Z to open worlds.
Where you could go anywhere provided you had the means to get there. Those of us who played the games pre computers, also faced these challenges and the ones running the games could smite the people. They could give up...world destroyed.
If they smote them then they would likely be in jail for murder or assault. More often, they simply stopped playing or another took over that role.
They could learn from the players what they wanted to do. They might want an a-z path, but the players might go a1-a12, b2-7 and b10, and jump to d3-d8. All before going back and doing c1-c50. They will likely get Z eventually but they have free-will to explore the world, along with the consequences of doing it that way. Jump ahead too soon, and you might find the challenges too difficult OR all of the side quests might have geared you to do them all.
Now a lot of computer games will scale to the players in the party, to some extent. They might have a favorite a to b course but you could star a to c or do even and then go back to c and b.
I, as a Game Master, would often take the character backstories they wrote and build the initial encounters around those. How the groups formed would not always be in an inn. Slave ships stranded on a deserted island from a ship lost at sea.
Refugees fleeing war or brutal dictator. I did not create a single endpoint to the campaign. I might have 12-20 to choose from based upon the direction the party takes. A gaming group is a lot of giving and take, you want it to be fun for everyone. (A lot of improvisation)
This is a universe where it varies from goddesses to goddess as the rules they set are either set in stone, or in the case of the first goddess he encounters, the rules are made up as she went along. Thus breaking the contract that brought him to this universe.
As to being repetitive, that is something I struggle with...but have been working on. Having a Traumatic Brain Injury does not help with that. Re-reading and re-editing...over years has helped with that. For example, I just started the Dragon Wars series and it is a prequel to the Silvertree series.
I will be releasing a whole revision of the Silvertree Series. (Which I did last year to add more dimension to the story and remove a lot of repetitiveness. This time it is additional content and timeline corrections.) This will occur over the next few months to incorporate story hooks, both forward and backward into the 2 series.
It explains how the Silvertree Series came about. The past history and what started it all. It is a broader story and is not all focused on one family, mostly. It covers more of the allies and the opposition.
biglazydogabout 1 month agoI really like your series following Raven thus far (haven't rad the other series' yet). I think it's really fun conceptually and creative.
I think if you were to reread it yourself though that you would find that throughout the stories you have Raven explaining and reexplaining the same stuff over and over again. While the other characters might need an introduction to Raven and his past trauma when they are introduced, the reader probably doesn't need it quite so often. Same with his repeating explanations of his battle strategies, etc...
Also, I'm not quite sure how the term "free will" is being used here, and why so often. Surely, "free will" means Raven (humans and half-elves) have the ability to make choices which the goddesses do not like. Surely, it doesn't mean that the number of quests presented or the number of companions made available will be infinite or even palatable. Nor, would it mean that the players would be immune from the ire of their goddess for circumventing their will -- should they annoy her enough. In the bible, God smited (smote?) people all the time for all kinds of reasons; those people all had free-will... right up to the point that he drowned them in a flood, turned them to stone, or struck them with some other figurative lightning bolt. Raven seems to rely on claiming "free-will" as a sort of "get out of jail free card" and awful lot.
Anyway love the story. Hope I catch your attention and get response.
