"I can't let myself get attached to anyone this time," she muttered, wiping her eyes. "It hurts too much."

This attachment had a name according to her on-board system. It was called "love".

As far as Fasha was concerned, it only brought pain.

She looked out of her window and saw a white spiral galaxy up ahead. It was considerably smaller than others she had seen.

Her destination was somewhere inside there.

* *

Despite what she had seen in her lifetime as a warrior, it was always a thrill for Fasha when she stretched the limits of her known realms. She peered out of her window to see this uncharted part of space.

It looked mostly the same – empty space dotted with planets, stars and stray asteroids. Each part of the great cosmic machine revolved around her. She looked on with wonder. It was still pristine, untouched by her kind.

Fasha was the first step. Soon, Saiyans would take over all that she could see. It was like a cancer waiting to spread. It made sense sending their strongest first to soften the region.

Her pod blazed past the celestial bodies.

She felt a familiar pang of regret. Somewhere out there, an unknown planet was waiting to be colonized and the indigenous species enslaved. Fasha curled up as best as the confined space would allow.

"We are approaching our destination."

She raised her head. A singularly unimpressive tiny star looked back at her. It glowed a bright orange, still in its early stages. Several exotic looking planets revolved around it. Her pod followed an arc around the star, approaching one of the planets.

"Will the species have advanced warning of my arrival?"

"Hardly," replied her system condescendingly. "This craft moves much faster than can be detected by their primitive technologies."

It went on, "The gravity is one-tenth of what you are used to in your planet and the atmosphere is conducive to you."

The pod stopped and hovered in the air above the planet. Fasha looked out and could not hold back a gasp at its beauty. It was shrouded in a wispy white and covered with blue and green swathes. The green parts made intricate shapes on the larger blue.

"What to the inhabitants call their planet?" she asked, her eyes riveted on it.

"Earth."

She rested her head once more, contemplating her next move. Her resolve hardened not to let her Arcosian feelings have a free reign. They pained her every time they came out.

Even as she swore, she knew that they would interfere. They always did.

"Maybe they are barbaric warriors just like us," she reasoned, hoping it would be easier if she could bring herself to hate these "humans", as they referred to themselves.

The time for idle musing was over. It was time to be a soldier once more.

"Prepare for landing."

She braced herself.

The Large Binocular Telescope in the Mount Graham Observatory in Arizona registered a blip in its daily sweep of the Northern sky. It got the excitement of some of the resident scientists. After examining the data closely, they came to the conclusion it was a glitch in the system. There was a momentary blur on their high resolution screen, but nothing before or after.

Disappointed, they returned to their stations.

Nobody on Earth realized that they were living on borrowed time. The mighty celestial clock had begun counting down to the death knell of life as they knew it.

The subsequent chapters will be posted under Non-Human, since the action takes place on modern day Earth (not really a SciFi locale). Hope you like them too.

God-like powers

God-like powers sit badly with murderous psychopaths. Psychopaths are missing certain brain capabilities, they don't have the extra mental powers that are the result of dedicated personal development.
