As if on cue, Dani and her mom came walking up, "Bull, I don't feel so good right now..." She moved next to him and wrapped her arms around his waist and buried her face in his shoulder. Bull grinned as he saw Red look at her.
"You mean she really was real? I thought you were always so full of shit...even with those drawings you had...Is she okay, she looks kind of pale right now, and does she need a place to sit down..."
"She's okay, we're going to have a baby and she's been feeling sick a lot." He ran a hand over her hair, "Hey Dani honey, this is Red LaGrange, he and I are old friends..."
She looked and nodded. "Hi, I...I'll be fine, and it's nice to meet you."
Bull didn't need to ask if Red doubted his visions now, his bright green eyes were looking into Dani's amber ones and it was clear he understood why his onetime cell mate had felt the way he had. "Oh man, tell me there are more like you out there somewhere Dani, I been hearing about you for five years and now that I meet you, I can understand why. Just tell me your home town, your last name and I will be on the road there tomorrow..."
That brought chuckles from Jack and her brother. "Sorry son, only girl in the family, but she's got cousins, lots of female cousins. Most of which are unmarried come to think of it."
Dave walked into the lobby, "Hey dad, the cops are here, I showed them the RV and the truck but they need to talk to you."
Dani perked up, "What the hell happened to my truck...?"
"You a couple flat tires, that's all honey...and a small dent where your dad kicked it..." Bull said the last part in a softer toned voice.
Her amber eyes turned liquid as she looked at her dad, "You kicked my truck, that's my truck, how would you feel if I went and kicked your precious Harley?"
Everyone watched as her dad escaped out the door to avoid his daughter's wrath and Bull looked at his old friend. "Didn't I tell you she was going to be something special?"
"That you did..." Red grinned. "I better go get those security tapes, you all just relax for a while, and as soon as the man with the tire shop comes by about six, he stops in for coffee and pastry, I'll tell him what happened."
Jack showed the police officers the slashed tires and together they went over the two vehicles with flash lights and checked for other damage. The crimes were petty compared to what they were wanted for back home, but the man in charge told Jack it was still a good idea that they had the tapes and their names and descriptions.
"The fact those two are following you this far south, you can bet they won't give up so easy, I'll call this sheriff back in Oregon and get someone the phone to the state patrol. Get copies of the warrants from your home town and those in Texas. Hell of a home coming for you and your family..."
Jack nodded. "To make it worse, that big guy inside, he's from the bayou country, his folks are in New Orleans visiting my family, we just got word last night that his daddy just died and this is going to kick us back a few hours."
"You don't say, that seems to be happening to a lot of folks right now, one of my men, he got word his uncle passed away last night too." The man in charge with the name of Murphy on his Sergeant's badge looked at one of the other men with him. "Hey, Bill, didn't Jean-Claude tell you his uncle was from the bayou, the guy who passed away last night? I know he was all broke up, said he had spent his summers as a kid out working his uncle's fishing boats down in the channels?"
"Yeah, J.C. said it was one thing he was going to miss about the old man, being able to go out on the boat and get some real fishing in. Course, he's got kids galore. He's planning on heading south tomorrow to go pay his respects and see how his aunt Massie is."
Jack looked at the man who had been speaking. "You don't mean Massie Marquaille do you?"
The officer looked surprised. "Yeah I do how you know..."
Jack shook his head, "because her son Beau is in the lobby of the motel, him and my daughter are together. Massie's why we're upset about this happening. She's at my momma's house in New Orleans."
"Well hell, let me get J.C. on the phone, and get him over here. If that is his cousin Beau, well they ain't seen each other since they were kids..."
Jack nodded. "Let me go tell Bull, he's be is not going to believe this, first an old friend from jail and now a cousin who's a cop. And I thought my life was messed up at the moment..."
