"If you try and escape via the ocean, there are things in the water that will kill you. If you have dreams of rescue by...anyone, the Dragons control access by air or sea. If you decide to try and go to the jungle...well the spiders will handle you there. You are here for life gentlemen." Drew paused again.

"Well, those are the basic rules. You live out the rest of your life on an island paradise. If you ration your food, you can live comfortably. If you wish to live in a community, that is your choice, or be alone, again your choice. When you die, your body will be recycled and used to fertilize the island foliage. What happens beyond that fence is not our doing. We will only get involved if it means you are trying to escape or do damage to the island itself. That involvement will be swift, concise and almost assuredly not to your benefit."

Drew looked at the eyes of each of the men that tried or killed other beings and felt little to no compassion. "And that is all there is gentlemen. These security officers will take you and complete the final processing and then you will be set free to live your lives."

"You can't do this, I have my rights as a NA representative," screamed Mr. Schober.

Drew just looked over at the UN contingent. Ms. Easterbrook straightened her shoulders and gave a quieter harrumph.

"Your[sp1] rights were forfeited by the NA, Mr. Schober. And while I do not condone this form of imprisonment, like Lord Drew stated, I am only an observer"

The security officers grabbed his arms and drug him off towards the processing building beside the large gate labeled A. the other prisoners went more quietly, which bothered Drew more than Schober's reaction.

Drew then turned to the UN observers, and mentally scanned them. He was not overly pleased with the UN ambassador. He would have to arrange something special to see what she was made of, maybe a trip to visit Governor Li and the spider-work factory she has set up.

Ms. Easterbrook was a classic bureaucrat. Opinionated, but would not show it. All her decisions would be colored and slanted by a lack of real experience. Not that she would ever admit to lacking 'real' experience. She would gladly tell you of her time as undersecretary for the assistant to the deputy secretary of commerce for emerging nations. Not that she ever went near the emerging nations mind you, she just read reports and tried to get paperwork from here to there. She felt she was being sent to purgatory when she received this assignment

Now Ms. Booker was intelligent and open minded and was thrilled to be give this chance. She seemed to already have a real grasp on some of the underlaying issues. Let's see how she deals with the same situation he was thinking of for Ms. Easterbrook.

Now DB was the outlier. He tried to investigate DB's mind and fond a barrier of some sort. He looked at the smirk on the younger man's face. No, it was not a smirk but a softer smile of knowledge.

"You need to ask. Then I will answer. I was not sure if the wall would hold." And Drew had to give the kid credit.

Everyone around the two was stunned when they realized that the two were both having a mental conversation.

"Well damn. That's just great, another one that can talk mind to mind. I'll never hear anything until it blows up," commented Target.

Drew just smiled and patted her cute ass. "We will try and be polite, I promise dear."

Drew did turn to DB and noticed the diamond shaped tattoo had grown slightly darker and seemed more defined.

"We need to find some time to be together DB, and talk"

"Just name the time and place Lord Drew," and then he bowed as one High Grell would do to another.

Lord Drew just burst out laughing.

***

The morning started again for Drew as it had two days previous, BUT without the pending drama. He sat sipping his tea watching the sun change the morning colors. He watched a couple of hummingbirds' dart around their feeder.

He left the biologists, botanists, zoologist, and the others deeper in the sciences to define what plant and animals could be or should be transplanted to this planet. He wondered briefly what benefit, other than to make him smile, hummingbirds brought to the ecosystem. They turned out to be a huge hit with the ladies of his household which is why he fabricated an earth style feeder. He did have to have a talk with Hoppy that they were not prey, not these anyway.

'Must keep the ladies of the house happy,' he thought.

'Speaking of which...' he thought as he heard movement in the house. Target came out in her robe over one of his t-shirts. She felt some of her clothes were already getting tight. He called 'bullshit' but never out loud. She was glowing with the knowledge that she was carrying his child. Plus, the damn t shirt looked great with her 4 nipples poking out in the colder morning air.

She slid into his arms and sighed. They had little time to talk after the destruction and mayhem of the previous days. When she had finally arrived at their suite, she had jumped him and rode him with an animalistic amount of energy. They had talked afterwards of what got her more wound up than usual, she had shrugged and presumed it was a mix of the excitement of battle and her being pregnant.

"I should make you pay for all the repairs," he said with a smile. She smiled back, reached up and kissed him softly with a sight moan before she clamped his lower lip between her canines.

"All damage was done in the line of duty sir," she stated as she pulled away from him and gave him a military salute.

She slid back into his arms and ran her paws up under his shirt so she could feel his warm skin, "So, my lord Drew, do we have to go back to bed or draw a long bath?"

"No, my love, an interesting human is coming to visit in an hour. He is a distant relative, I just met him yesterday. He is sort of tied into the UN observers, but he has another odd designation. He has been deemed a Grell scholar by the damn asshole High Grell ambassador himself. How that stuck up Grell Elder somehow decided to award that honor on a 18year old human male is too much for me to miss out. I have asked his mother and him to join us today. We did not get a chance to talk about it last night because of your persuasive personality, but I would like you there. I have asked Eddie to join us since he is on-planet today and tomorrow."

"OK, Ill get ready, but tonight you are mine and mine alone, my lord Drew," she slipped from his arms and went to get ready.

Drews pad chirped and he opened to find the most interesting and odd email.

"Target, please come back and read this with me," because he called her by name, she knew it was business, but she stood next to him with an open mouth.

It was a simple old school text, received by Drew and as he would find out later, several others within his personal sphere. The message was simple, something had been left at certain space coordinates.

"Do you understand what this could mean?" He asked her.

"Yes, elder space junk. I saw a copy of the email earth received as they got their space station. Do you think they are giving up another space station?"

"I don't know but get a hold of Alexander and have him send someone to check it out." She turned to leave, and he gave her a nice swat on her behind.

"You just keep all that for tonight my Lord Drew," Target stated as she swung her hips much more provocatively.

Drew received a mental message that simply stated "we are here"

Receiving messages between he and the Cats was a norm, but the messages received from DB were different. He could not place why, but they seemed to come to him from a different place. By the time he got to the room, the others were there. He took his seat at the table and looked at DB.

"Can you just communicate to me mentally, or can you do it to others?"

DB just nodded his head and then held Drew's look.

A soft broadcast went out all the people in the room.

'good morning to you all. With a beautiful sunset outside, I am happy to be here with my mother to honor you, my long distant cousin for all the changes you have brought to my life.'

Several gasped because it was almost a soft whisper in their minds. The cats tended to be much more direct. DB's mother was shocked and frightened over the change in her son.

"For the benefit of everyone I recommend we use spoken communication. Some of us get grumpy when we hold conversations, she can be part of." Drew commented and slated his eyes to look at Target.

"Yes, no kidding. Please let everyone at the table participate," commented Target as she un-sheathed and sheathed her claws, from her paw on his thigh.

"So, DB, please tell us how a very young earth human became a Grell scholar and how you communicate the way you do?" Drew asked.

"Something happened on the transition from Earth to Mars. It's a short jump but my meds did not work," DB paused because he could feel the unease in Drew.

Drew saw what was going on, "please go on, I do not do Transitions easily and the thought of going through without meds brings back painful memories."

"I found myself talking to an interesting creature. He turned out to be a High Grell scholar. This being pointed out how life came to be spread throughout the galaxy. We had a brief talk, I believe more of a pep-talk to get me past my biases, and then I woke up." DB paused trying to thing how to give a short version of his change.

"It turned out days had past, and I awoke in a hospital on Mars. I knew I had the ability to communicate differently, but I kept it hidden. Well I tried to keep it hidden until I saw the High Grell Ambassador and said 'hi'."

At this point Adrian his mom commented, "said Hi! You say like it was nothing. I almost died on the spot."

Drew started to laugh, and then he could not stop...finally he settled down.

"My apologies to you all. I have the met the oh, so, High Grell Ambassador when we tackled the Roach issue. He is such an asshole. He was forced by circumstances to talk to my dad, Kay, Tiffany, and me. You would have thought we were all dipped in animal excrement. He could not get away from us or the situation faster." Drew just stared at the table thinking of Kay and better days with Tiffany.

"My sorrows for your losses" DB commented.

Drews head shot up and he asked, "So what else can you do with the changes wrought into you?"

"I am trying to learn to shield my mind, but it is not always easy. Your pain was heavily broadcast"

Drews eyes flicked to Eddie. "Think you could help him? You taught me."

"If he is not averse to my help, I would gladly work with him." Edie looked at DB and DB sent him a mental affirmative and a thank you while shaking his head for the others to see.

"As for what else I can do, I have no idea. I am new to this but somehow it feels like I have been doing this my whole life." DB smiled when he thought of the next discussion.

"As for the High Grell ambassador, once I had said 'hi'" he looked at his mom for comment, but she rolled her eyes and looked away.

"So, once I said Hi, he asked me to meet. During that meeting I shared with him my memories of meeting the high Grell scholar. He decided that since one of the 'ancient ones,' is my best translation, found me, I should be kept close for study. I am sure by now he knows I skipped town and where I am."

Eddie jumped in, "He sent word that you are on Grell business as a scholar to the Cat parcel of space. You are to be afforded all comforts and honors as an Ambassador and representative of the Elders."

DB heard the gasps at the table. His mom was the loudest in his mind.

"Well bless his little heart." DB commented. He heard more gasps at his belittling of the Title of Ambassador that had bestowed him.

"My apologies, but..." DB paused trying to find deeper longer words to express his feelings.

"Oh, fuck it! Ops, sorry. I am trying to be all formal and grown up with my explanations, but I give up." He paused for only a moment and then tried to be as open and honest as he could.

"The being that I met, shared some of his knowledge and...peace with me. I know that if he met his descendants he would be saddened and disappointed. Maybe that is why he contacted me and not them. He called me a child of the stars. Maybe that is what is needed, beings of little experience but open minded, able to absorb the changes that are coming."

DB had paused for a second thinking over his own words. " The important titles, the entourage, the attitude of the modern Grell is nothing like the being I met. The sad part is, that after the Ambassador and I met again, he admitted that his culture was just a shell, no, a cocoon, of what it was and should be."

There was a ruffling and then a calliope of sound a Goldies and Kitten rushed into the room. Goldie rushed to say hello to all of people she knew. Kitten loped directly to DB, put her paws on the arm rest and stuck her face in his from the side. He just started to laugh with her nose in his ear and the whiskers tickling.

He heard his mother shriek as a three-foot, black, furry spider climbed on top of the large conference table. The mini mouse ears making little difference in Adrian's reaction.

DB then he heard the most beautiful voice, in and out of his head, and saw a vision of loveliness.

"Papa, why did I get these odd messages on my Pad..." she stopped talking when she saw the formal meeting going on. And then she locked eyes on the boy sitting at the table. She thought he was the most handsome boy she had ever seen.

The room flooded with emotions from two directions.

"Oh, dear god," Drew commented out loud. Target just started to laugh and tear up. Adrian was still terrified looking at the spider bouncing on the table, but she finally noticed the mouse ears and it somehow made it better. Kitten just licked the entire side of DB's head.

The two young adults just smiled at each other.

"Well I guess I need to do the introductions." Commented Lord Drew of the Pride

thank you for writing the story.

"Adrian was still terrified looking at the spider bouncing on the table, but she finally noticed the mouse ears and it somehow made it better." Is the "she" reference correct ?

Fantabulus!

Exciting to begin the story, then transverse into Drew having to be a leader with all of the burdens, ending with the question of...where will DB take this story? The sweetest gift of all is the possibility that a young romance is in the air. You totally rock Drew! Thanks for sharing.
