An awful ending
A well written story completely spoilt by the fantasy ending. I know you say this was told to you by someone else but I find it hard to believe that he took his wife back so easily without any kind of retribution, not saying it couldn't happen, just that I doubt it did. With a decent ending maybe a 4, but this was so spoilt. 2 **more...
Um, yeah... the ONLY way she wasn't a cheating spouse...
is the sex component. She let him touch her inappropriately, she let him kiss her AND kissed him back... she LIED to her husband and children about her actions...
She hurt her children - not accidentally but KNOWINGLY - by opting to have a date and sex with someone other than their father rather than spend time with them...
Basically as much damage as COULD be done to their marriage HAD been done. The sex would have just been the superfluous flowers on the grave rather than the nail in the coffin.
I think the better choice would have been TO confront her with what was in her trunk before she left home and then to have made her choose: A) do whatever you like and we'll just get a divorce - already have the paperwork ready; B) PRETEND to go through with every action that was planned up to but NOT including having sex - so Danni could get her divorce with evidence (even though only Mr. And Mrs. Richards would know it was staged) - knowing in her heart AND head that her husband was aware of EVERYTHING she was doing and that each action COULD be the end of her marriage anyway; C) don't choose A or B and her husband will divorce her anyway, but on the bright side, maybe her "lover" would escape a divorce - at least for having sex with HER.
I really kind of like the idea of option B... not because it would be fun as a husband having your wife do things with someone - though if you were willing to follow Danni's plan that was going to happen anyway - but because every action she takes she'd both have to hide her deceit from her "lover" (causing her to feel what it would be like from both perspectives at once)... AND... she would have to feel the disrespect she must have felt for her husband for being too stupid to tell she was lying to him for her "lover".
I can easily picture a wife needing extended therapy after having to successfully pull off an option B, maybe even going through an emotional and mental breakdown.
Ok, if you're TRYING to stay together, maybe that wouldn't be the BEST way to go... what can I say - I'd just be a bit hostile...more...

Not just no. But HELL NO!
This rolled along fine until you decided he should take the slut back. Yes, she didn't actually have physical sex. But in every other way she had left the marriage. And her children. I know this is fiction. I know you could write about the Moon being made of green cheese. But this ending was just too implausible and totally unpalatable. Not that the story was badly written. It wasn't. But this was simply a godawful ending that ruined the entire story.more...
